I dont have a 4x4 but I used to and all I can say is they are bloody well better than cars when it comes to gripping the road. In short, there are reasons why people drive around in 4x4s why do I get the impression on here that people who drive around in them are idiots. Thats mighty presumptious and bourgoise thinking there.

What is Ken doing with all the congestion charge money anyway? Building giant extractor fans for the centre of London?

Congestion charge is a joke anyway. Just look at that word. Charge for congestion. Its ridiculous. Now you have to pay to be caught in trafic jams. The whole fucking world is off its rocker. Its another stupid tax.

They'll be taxing breathable air soon you wait and see.

If you can afford a big 4x4, and the insurance and the fuel, then you afford the other costs, so whats the issue ?

I think there are types of 4x4's, i mean theres an Escalade, why would anyone need an escalade ? or a hummer ?

If you live inside the zone you dont pay the charge so this will have no effect on the Chelsea tractors !love!

some of us with lots of kids need the 4x4 to get them all in ,and we do live in the country and take it off road and use it for what it was made for

ah red ken, this man has just traveled to see his marksist buddies in central america but they were too busy,what a numptie all that polloution for nothing,if they wan't the congestion charge to really work it would be ?25 for every car,whats going to happen is the working class will be forced off the road and driving will be for the rich only,current charges aren't going to effect someone who can afford to spend ?50000 on a 4 wheel drive.

Compare this with the annual burn by farmers in Borneo which is now being carried out and will make 20 times the emissions than the whole of the U.K does in one year its not going to make much difference to global warming but could make a difference to pollution in Central London which is one great city !love!

But no surprise really - the "congestion charge" was always going to be the thin end of another stealth tax wedge. No doubt other large cities will soon be jumping on the bandwagon ... then the smaller cities ... then the market towns ....

All this hand-wringing over 4x4s is a red herring anyway. The amount of CO2 that they add to the atmosphere is absolutely miniscule compared with the deforestation and intensive agriculture that's going on in the Third World. That's the real cause of the global CO2 problem, not a few 4x4s.

But of course it's easy for the likes of "man of the people" Red Ken to target motorists in general (and 4x4 drivers in particular) to fill his coffers so that he can make the grimy, crime-ridden and overpriced toilet that is London all nice and shiny in time for the Olympics, and finance his other pet loony-left projects.

As someone said above, the politics of envy indeed. Now I wonder what SB drives ....
