Bearing in mind the first album was written and recorded when Banks, Gabriel, Ant Phillips and Rutherford were in their teens, and produced by Jonathan King----who foisted a concept album theme on them---it does still have some good moments. Some cringe-worthy moments too, though.
My problem with them was mainly the route they took when down to a three-piece. An article in the music press about one of their tours quoted a roadie as wondering why Tony and Mike let Collins away with what he was doing. A few years ago, the smug, egotistical tosser appeared on Channel 4's Prog Bands Top Ten programme and proudly announced, "We sold out, man!"

Im kinda surprised this is all happening as Collins has been quoted as being pissed off with the fans for blaming him for the popification of the band. His stance was "do you really think Banks and Rutherford had no say on those albums or would do stuff they didn't want to do?".
If they were going to do a "Seconds Out" style set then I would be tempted. But I heard on the radio that the bulk of the set will be based on the last two studio albums Colins was involved in, with the old meddlies to cover the old songs. Won't be paying a fortune to stand on a rugby pitch to listen to that I'm afraid.

"well, just wait until the following year, when Gabriel is free to join in."
A delicious prospect indeed but I just can't imagine it happening. I just cannot visualise PG fronting Genesis again and singing tracks such as Firth Of Fifth and Watcher Of The Skies. But....I dearly hope to be proved wrong!

Hmmm...interesting. Thinking about it I suppose I could imagine him doing a few tracks from "The Lamb..." with Genesis but "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed" would be a shock choice indeed. I saw Gabriel a couple of times on his last tour and he was insanely good, in the best form I've ever seen him.
