I have totted up penalty charges for bounced cheques/direct debits + "excess overdraft fees", I have not counted in agreed fees such as overdraft interest etc, as these are accepted costings for services agreed. I have stuck strictly to the 3 above charges.
I would assume it either works or it doesn't and that there is no middle ground; if they in the wrong and want to avoid court action, revealing costs etc then they will surely pay in all cases and not just randomly. I wonder how they would prove how it is fair to charge 35quid for each bounced item when the bouncing costs them nothing and the letters sent out are now computer generated from a national centre?

Can you claim back on EVERY bank account you have - business/current and savings, and is it just for when things have bounced/gone overdrawn, or can you claim on charges for putting in cheques/cash too?

Cheers bud!

I've just had a windfall from my bank.
Here in NZ the Commerce Commission has reached a settlement with my bank relating to the disclosure of currency conversion fees ....e.g. when you use your credit card for internet purchases overseas.
This covers the period 17 April 2002 to 31 December 2004.
I will receive compensation of

.
69c plus interest at 7% from 30 September 2006.
Well, thats my Xmas present shopping covered then.....lol

On personal accounts you can claim back for every penalty charge over the past six years. Not sure what the situation is on business accounts. You can also claim back interest on all those charges at the rate of 8% p.a. It's amazing how the interest bumps up the claim.
It takes a few months and the banks and their solicitors will try to put obstacles in your way, but if you follow the procedure correctly, you will get your money back. Their charges are illegal (no matter what the banks will tell you). To date there have been thousands of people who have succesfully claimed back the money that has been illegally taken from thoir accounts. The banks do not want to go to court to fight these claims, because if they did and lost, it wouild set a precdent and open the floodgates.
I claimed back just over 3 grand, they have offered me ?1500, which I am about to refuse. I expect to get the full amount over the next few weeks.
A really helpful site for those wishing to claim back bank charges:
http://www.bankchargeshell.co.uk/cgi-bi ... tion=login
You will need to register before you can read the forum, but there are lots of people there who are prepared t help you with your claims and answer any questions you might have. There are also templates for writing the standard letters you need to send and links to interest calculators.
Hope this was helpful.
