Mc Donalds is overtly American and the wine you mentioned is not British....Are there any other examples.....?
Soccer isn't traditionally Brazilian, Islam isn't traditionally Pakistani, Bengali, Malaysian, nor Turkish or north African, 'tossing the caber' was introduced by the Vikings. You would associate these things with certain cultures, correct?
I could go on through every culture and give you foreign influences that have been adopted.

Like I said, Britain 'has' a culture but I guess it takes a complete foreigner to see the differences.

You're right in that the thread started as something to do with sexism rather than culture, but the sexism in this case is historically entwined within Islamic culture.............so I can't see how the thread could have been replied to in any depth without mentioning the culture that feeds these sexist comments & beliefs.

"If our culture is such trash, why is it that the world and his wife seem to want to come and live here ?"

They're not coming for the culture; they're coming for the government benefits and public sector handouts. Bizarre and iniquitous as it mean seem to many indigenous, lifelong taxpaying citizens, families from the deserts of Somalia only have to turn up on our doorstep to be welcomed in (by public sector sorts) and provided with a free house, electricity, running water, food, transport, entertainment, communications and some spending money. The afor mentioned public sector sorts will also respect the migrants ?cultural diversity? by turning a blind eye to the oppression of ?wimmin? gays and quaint medieval customs like female circumcision. Third world migrants would be crazy not to come.

"We don't seem to have a lot of culture,"

I beg to differ. At the moment we seem to have lots of popular culture - problem is, it's virtually all vacuous, chav-friendly, shit.

?totally agree, we seem to have gone too far to accomodate minority cultures in this country to the detriment of our own culture and basic freedoms. time for a redress of balance i think!?

Hear, hear!

Its no better down here. A few years ago a British doctor came to Perth to work in my department for a year. He liked the place so much he wanted to stay. He had a wife, two kids and given that there is a shortage of quacks in Oz generally, he would be sought after. I thought he'd be a sure bet for permanent residency.

But no, they rejected his application and sent him packing. Such a nice bloke ( for a pommy bastard, you understand ) gets sent back but we continue to let in people who genuinly hate us and are now openly boasting that they have no intention of adapting to Australia.

Its an experiment that has failed, but the people conducting it are like mad scientists insisting with soot covered faces that " everythings OK - it was meant to explode ".

Only if you're a hard working, decent law abiding type. Totally unsuitable dead shits get government assistance to come.

I notice the bar staff in central London pubs

But those East European babes are hot shit aren't they? Or at least they are in the DVDs I watch!
