Mart's not been himself of late. His recent interjections have been fairly moderate in tone, unusually voluble, and refreshingly light on personal invective. In short, a respectable member of the bgafd ? which is all rather intriguing, I must say.

yeah back when A levels were A levels the only people who did more than 3 were the well clever people who could cope with further maths (fuk that, maths on its own was tough)

never counted general studies as an A level - just a pub quiz really

the problem is though the recent explosion in people doing degrees are mostly doing crap pointless degrees

yes there is a place for a few media studies and sociology degrees, but definately not to the extent you see these days
these pointless degrees have stopped people doing anything meaningful such as physics for example, who wants to work that hard when they can do 3 hours a week and walk out with a BA

True, I can't see the point of most degrees. A scientific degree, is a proper, meaningful degree!

Sat my A's in '86, but due to discovering the joys of alcohol + aquiring a sex-mad girlfiend (not a speelink mistake ) they sort of went down the pan and along with it my degree options. I think too many high grades ar being given now, and the exams have been made easier too.
Finally went to Uni in my early 30's to do a Degree in Horticulture, and to be honest, I'd advise any child of mine to do the same, take your A's, go have some fun, get some work and life experience, then go to university, you have a lot more to add to the 'mix' then.

The thing that always amazes me is that the British media seem to believe that the broad mass of the public are the slightest bit interested in whether someone they don't know has passed or not. Should the number of people who have passed their GCSE really be the main story on the BBC six o'clock news?
