Hi Wendy,
Enjoyed reading your recently posted Dublin college speech. It was clear, concise and the the arguments you put forward on behalf of the porno business were elegant and simple. Sadly, human nature being what it is, even the clearest logic will never be enough to convince those that have decided, or been programed, to believe that pono is "exploitative" and/or "imoral". But what the heck, we?ll press on anyway.
With regard to your more recent comments.
The reason why most British girls only do a few videos is that, sadly, most of the girls on the British scene today are unprofessional slappers, with neither the looks, or brains to sustain a professional career. Over the past 6-7 years there has been a marked decline in the quality of girls coming forward to get into the business. Unfortunately, some well know British producers have been complicit in, if not actually encouraging this American trend, with the unfortunate result that they are slowly strangling the gooses that lays the golden egg. Allow me to elaborate.
10 years ago we had ?glamour models? girls who?s job it was to look delicious and desirable for photo shoots in the then booming top shelf men?s mag market. And as video became more prevalent, most of them dipped their toe into that pool as well. - I?m thinking of such girls as Louise Hodges, Misty McCaine, Teresa May, Vida Garmen, Gilly Sampson, Samantha-Jane, Charmeine Sinclair, etc, etc,. The were and still are professionals. When you booked them for a job they turned up on time with a big bag of glamourous outfits and an extensive makeup kit. And times were good.
But nothing ever stays the same. The magazine market changed driven by constant media hype and poncy middle class sniping the men's mag market split into what we know to day as ?Lads Mags? and more down market (cheap & dirty?) porno mags. Middleclass ponciness grew more prevalent and branded the old topshelf glamour mags ?exploitative? and the pornier mags were beyond the pale. Ordinary blokes could not say different because the middle class ponces controlled the means of expression - by and large they are the journalists who write all the magazine and newspaper articles, make the radio and TV documentaries and decide the editorial policy for virtually all the mainstream media. And since the 1968 ?Summer of Love? fissled out sex and porno have not been fashionable causes with the middle classes.
So, sales of ?Mayfair? ?Club International? ?Escort? etc, go into freefall giving W.H.Smiths the excuse to take them off their shelves therefore exacerbating the problem. With the result that the glamour girls didn't get that many jobs and as career prospects diminished and social pressures increased, very few quality girls come along to step onto the first rung of the glamour ladder. But that?s not all, the world is turning and we are approaching a pivotal moment in the history of world porn...
Over in the States a smalltime porno actor hits on the novel idea of getting one of those new fangled video cameras and using it himself to film top porno babes in simple no frills sex sessions round at his gaff, or round at a colleagues - no need to bother with all that lighting and crew, sex is sex, right? John ?Buttman? Stagliano?s idea takes off like a rocket, and to begin with it?s great, seeing your favourite porno stars in more mundane situations, as opposed to the big budget scripted movies that were prevalent at the time. Then the rot sets in - the other bigger producers find they can?t compete. This upstart is taking all their trade in movies that cost $100,000?s to produce with something that costs $5000! So what?s the solution? Regrettably, it was ?if you can?t beat um? join um?? And so begins the downward spiral of cost cutting, undercutting and eventual decline in the quality and content. This leads to oblivion. If sufficient profits are not made there is no money to reinvest in stars marketing and equipment. So the glamours professional porno girls with image, and invariably, there own fan clubs are slowly replaced by trailer park trash, generically characterised by plastic tits, pierced, tattooed, anorexic bodies and a numbness of spirit that results in their demeanour hardly altering as they ARE ABUSED by barrel scraping producers.
Of course this trend seeps across the Atlantic to Blighty where an enterprising chap has had the supremely audacious and original idea of coping ?Buttman!? And just like the original he gets off to an excellent start using some of Britain?s top glamour girls. But after 3 or 4 volumes he?s used all the decent girls up. The punters are clamouring for more, what is he to do? But hold on, there must be loads of girls on council estates thought the land that would be keen to earn a couple of hundred quid, I mean what else can they do? Not going to be able to be doctors or solicitors are they?...Hmmm.
So, the fate of the fledgling British adult video business is it seems sealed before it can take off. Maybe, maybe not. Anyhow, a few weeks back me and some producer pals held an open audition for new porno girls ?dahn in sarf Landan.? Of the 17 girls that said they would attend only 4 turned up, and one was a regular performer - a girl who one misguided colleague regularly promotes as ?a porno star? but who?s appearance I find distasteful. Anyhow, the long and short of it was that we were APPALLED by the quality of the girls, they were all fairly scrawny, saved and covered in tattoos. We were all in agreement that we would could never use any of them! I mean what are these girls thinking of - going along to a modelling audition covered in tattoos with pierced nipples! If we ever decide to make a movie about heroin junkie slags they would be ideal, but till then there?s nothing for them.
What is needed is to encourage a higher calibre of girl onto the business. Natural girls without ?attitude.? They don?t have to look like Claudia Schiffer, just have a good manner and no ?porno pretensions.? The girls are out there, I see them waking down the High St, serving me in the bank, what?s needed to encourage them is more money on offer and the business being promoted in the media at every opportunity. If porno can be lifted out of the gutter and made ?fashionable? it will take off like a rocket. But for that you need quality people that can?t easily be dismissed by the mainstream media.
The Insider.
