By the same token, you could say that it was then PURE BAD LUCK that they lost to Germany on penalities in the semi-finals of that tournament.

So I watched the France game last night, and yet another lack lustre performance. However unlucky with the definate goal.
Now I am wondering all the European players looked fucked, they have such a heavy domestic and european season perhaps they have nothing left. The Africans and Koreans are running like there's no tomorrow.

Maybe it's time we cut the season in the U.K down a bit, so european players can prepare for the internationals.

Why run around playing football when you make so much money...?.I would have thought the incentive wasn't there.

Then bring along your wives,girl-friends,mistresses,dog,cat,baby and the kitchen sink, frankly I wouldn't bother dressing in the morning..as for training, why bother.Just have one continuous binge.

Real football went out of the window many moon's ago:I had an uncle that played for Charlton back in the thirties,on 2/6 a week, type of thing.I salute the REAL players from the past.

Treat em mean, keep em keen.Today it's big business, and sometimes they don't live up to the press hype.Poor dears!.

Here we go again:the 'Super Hero's' of the the media World, our caped wonders,Owen & Rooney, are once again unleashed onto the football field.

...and who scores, other personal in the squad.

The media tells us having these lads playing for us it will be 10-0 within seconds.

Grow up you Press pundits, lay off the hype.

The fact that Owen fell badly in the first minute and sustained a career-threatening injury to his knee may account for some of this, do you not think? How the f**k do you expect him to score when he was stretchered off at this point in sheer agony? As for Rooney, he obviously isn't match-fit by any standard and he is fully aware of this. Joe Cole is playing really well. Major problems at the back with set-pieces.

They build them up because they're match winners. Not to score 10 goals a match.

On a side note, I couldn't believe the match yesterday. Sweden caused no problems whatsoever in open play & our defending was awful on set-pieces. Sol Cambell -even with all his experience- seemed to forget that you never let a ball bounce before clearing it.

The only good thing is that organising set-pieces is easy to sort out. Why Sven still doesn't try 3-5-2 is beyond me, I guess it's a little late for trying new formations.

We should indeed. The football season and the cricket season overlap between mid-April and the end of May; and then early August to the end of September now.

Lets go back to where we were. The season ending with the Cup Final the first or second weekend of May. The season starting the Saturday of August Bank Holiday or the Saturday before that.

If it worked until the mid 80s- why can't it work now?

All except the ones from Ghana are still running too, only this time for a plane back home. ;=)

Feel sorry for Ivory Coast though, they looked a good side and may well have qualified in a lot of the other groups, rather than the one which, cos of FIFA's bollocks rankings placed Argentina and Holland (two quarter-finalists for me), in the same group as them.
