...."I want an atmosphere. I love a party with a happy atmosphere!"
Thankfully, not the same one. I couldn't imagine Ian Curtis having sung lyrics like those!

In no particular order (though Roads and the album 'Dummy' are both Number 1, no question):

Roads - Portishead
Wealth - Talk Talk
Slave To The Wage - Placebo
Taillights Fade - Buffalo Tom
All Apologies - Nirvana

Sorry, mate- I was a bit narky and knacked! !wink!

I'm protective of my music......... !adolf!

We should start threads asking what the best song is by a certain band, that will give constructive comment.

Of bands frequently mentioned on your music threads so far, for me:

Joy Division: Dead Souls
New Order: True Faith 94
Kraftwerk: Trans-Europe Express (or Autobahn??)

.......and soforth. Too tired !sleep!

Heard of a cracking electro-gallic-rock outfit called Stereolab, dave78?

hey fudgeflaps, no problem. i have a similar outlook. just wanted to spark some conversation, and controversy, about music. good choices in terms of best songs by artists. thinking of some bands and songs that i and others have mentioned recently, i suppose my faves might be:

Joy Division - Atmosphere; Love will tear us apart; Decades.
New Order - Blue Monday; Bizarre Love Triangle; Regret; True Faith
Kraftwerk - Tour de France; The Model; Spacelab
Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant
The Jam - Town called Malice
The Beatles - Across the Universe; A Day in the Life
Portishead - Roads; Glory Box; Sour Times
The Stranglers - Golden Brown
The Smiths - Reel around the fountain
Beach boys - Good Vibrations; God Only Knows

Yeah, I have heard some stuff by Stereolab but years back, around the '98 period. I don't own any of their stuff actually. They are good. Remember listening to them when I was really into quite obscure electro dance stuff (e.g. Autechre, Boards of Canada etc.)

Trying to narrow this down is bloody difficult, but here goes anyways...

In no particular order (and probably subject to change depending on my mood)...

Martha & the Muffins - Echo Beach
Rage Against the Machine - Bullet In The Head
Teardrop Explodes - Reward
Rollins Band - Liar
XTC - Senses Working Overtime

This feels just like the scene (or the chapter if you've read the book) in High Fidelity where the main character keeps changing his all-time top 10 ad infinitum...and it pains me to leave certain tunes out, but hard choices have to be made sometimes!
