Actually he should probably have gone to prison. If I recall correctly he's a former boxer, meaning his punch isn't classed as assault, it's assault with a deadly weapon. Funny how the guy he chinned got taken in for questioning, but the police never bothered even talking to him.

Prescott should resign simply because it was his government who made perfectly natural male behaviour unacceptable in the workplace. Now men are afraid to pay women a compliment or make sexual advances unless they end up in a court of law for politically incorrect behaviour. Otherwise we will have a hypocrite as deputy prime minister.
