Whale thats it then, there are animals being put down and slaughtered every day, and also whales are dying naturally in the oceans and also being killed by whalers, so forgive me if i dont shed a tear for this one whale that found itself in the Thames, yes it would have been nice if it had a happy ending and was returned to the sea and lived happily everafter but if the dogooders really want to do good then they should concetrate on animals that are held in captivity and the cruelety they recieve this whale had its freedom and should have been left alone and who knows it might have just survived.

Re: The whale in the Thames
Are you suggesting I'm not paying my taxes Mart? I'll take great offence if you are. As a self employed person I pay for everything...Right down to pre payment prescriptions...So you were saying?....

Re: The whale in the Thames
All public entities waste money its just most aren't broadcast on national TV
Our Aussie treasurer lost AUS4 Billion dollars 3 years in a currency swap gone wrong but it never made the frontpage
Politician Junkets to sister cities where they learn?
A 100,000pounds is a blip in the ocean when considered against the size of the UKs yearly Budget
I'm sure some are seeing red because their trying to get funding for what ever
We had a similar issue with that idiot British Sailor Tony Bullimore in one of those around the world races a few years back
The final bill was estimated at around AUS1 million to find him and rescue him from the southern Ocean
He knew where he was going and what the potential risks would be unlike the whale.
Humane acts aren't undertaken with costs in mind
I ask what price is too high to save a life be it human or Animal?
cheers

Ok Deuce, you got me. You are right. Life is valuable no matter what it is and to put a cost on it should not be an issue....I stand corrected.
What use is money if it cant be put to some good eh?

I was asking where you got the info. that it was public i.e.taxpayers money when you said....."and a searing indictment to how our public money is spent."
I didn't state or imply you aren't paying your taxes.

Sorry Mart...Me flying off the handle again...Dont know why I thought that, it was something planeterotica said....Its his fault...He made me do it...He's evil! Evil I tells ya!
Seriously though, I presumed (wrongly it seems) that if 100, 000 big ones was spent that it wasnt coming out of the coffers of charity but the local services paid by Westminster Council to deal with the situation. if some one knows more, please clarify so i can stick my tongue out to Mart and say nyah- nyah-nah-nyah-nah..told you so...Otherwise its round one to you sir with an apology and a handshake...

Re: The whale in the Thames
I think the point Mart was making was that the figure of ?100k was just thrown in without any backup to where it came from
maybe it did cost that, maybe it didn't, without any proof or links it could be argued it was an inflamatory figure designed to cause grief to get people pissed off,
you never know maybe all these 'do gooders' gave their time for nothing and it cost you nothing. People can be funny, some of them don't always expect to be paid for their time!!

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

You're a scholar and a gentleman oej.
But I assume that if the whale had died anywhere it would be the responsibility of the local council to dispose of the carcass.
