It was very sad, but Arnold (not Layne) is a fucking right wing nazi who probably had perverse pleasure in making Tookie sweat it out over the weekend deciding if he should grant clemancy or not. I have visions of Arnie playing Nero on this one with the thumbs down deciding his future.
Tookie obviously had reformed and its pretty sick he spent 24 years on Death Row before he finally paid the highest price to society.
I echo Mr Laynes view, RIP Tookie

R I P Tookie ? as always not one mention of the victims, do they matter ? who really cares. After seeing some of Tookie's victims on Goregasm the treatment he got seemed humane. Let me see Lethal injection or a shot gun blast at close range to the face making you look like a strainer? tough one that.
He wote books, good for him his victims never had that luxury of planning thier lives, while the families lived in fear for many years, still in fear of violance thier sentence never ending. He looked very Musculare bet he used that to good effect while restrianing his victims must have been a big guy pointing a shot gun at someones face then watching them as they beg for thier lives then boom.
The Victims don't matter one bit to people like The Rev Jessie Jackson a Cause Celeb. You can see in one of the pics on Goregasm the doctors inserting a tube in one of his victims mouths trying to bring them back, no such luck thier face was almost destroyed. R I P brave Tookie. F.T.W

Alan T, your anger is definitely understandable for reasons i have outlined above but its a crazy world we live in...If Tookie was put in a marines uniform and blown the same said people off the face of the planet and came back to america he would have been decorated a hero....This logic aside though...The longer they kept him a live was the worst part of it and I'm inclined to agree that after moving this from a black and white straight cut issue into a quarter of a century mass of grey has made this a difficult one at best...and that is with thinking about the victims in mind.
Have you ever served time in prison Alan? Think about it...25 years is a looong time...He might as well have been dead.

Re: Stan 'Tookie' Williams
Jack I agree with you about the length of time he was on death row, why was he on death row all that time surley legal arguments dont take over 2 decades to resolve. The main problem I have with this and cases like it is the way Victims and their families are treated, Tookie over 2 decades in prison, educated, able to write and study, a large number of supporters working on his behalf, He had high profile supporters lawyers who nominated him for nobel peace prizes, The rev Jessie Jackson looked after him, and his family will now be taken care of with Money and support.
Compare this with the victims and their families, no support by anyone, No one there to listen to them, to support them and put arms around them and tell them its ok, most of the victims relatives are terrified still and more so now, not even wanting to show their faces for fear of retribution. But why? retribution of justice, the victims familes are the ones Isolated and afraid while tookey and his family friends are classsed as the victims in this. That is whats perverted about this whole case.
Society needs to change and recognise victims and criminals, look on the net how many young people have sites up devoted to Serial killers, no thought of the victims just concentrating on the acts of violence and taking perverse pleasure in thier handywork. Victims need recognition and in this society they are ignored wrongly, the criminal is seen as the Victim.
One last thought, Joseph P Smith, arrested a few years ago and sent to court for attempted rape and kidnapp. the judge did not believe the victim and released Smith, last year he was caught on CCTV abducting a Beautiful 11 year old girl Carlie Brucia he took her raped and strangled her, The Man should not have been on the streets to commit this Evil, yet pressure from Lawyers and the incompitance of the judge allowed this to happen, the erossion of the legal system in the USA allows this to happen and it will happen more and more if the death penalty is ever abolished.
We will have Lawyers then arguing that life terms are unconsitutional and early paroles would be suitable. Lets see The Rev Jessie Jackson standing by Smith, I dont think so, He Aint Heavy But he aint my brother.
Cause Celebs some people even saluting Tookie with the old gang hand gestures and Black Panther salutes.

The Terminator finally got to terminate someone.
People who argue for the death penalty amaze me.
They hate killers so much the first thing they want to do to them is kill them!
That makes sense!

Alan, I do not agree with your points about the death penalty (each to their own, see many earlier posts) but I would like to ask, have you ever known or know anyone who has died as a result of violence/drugs or are you basing your thoughts on what you think or should be right?

Re: Stan 'Tookie' Williams
diplodocus, You have your view as do I. I just want fair treatment for victims and their Families something sadly lacking. If someone blows someones face apart for no reason then finds himself a person looked up at by Powerfull people, lawyers and is a martyr to younger children, and some kind of beacon then its a world that scares me indeed.
He chose to show no mercy to his victims, he decided to pull the trigger and destroy the lives of many familes, shouldent they have the right to see justice done. I would not like to face the families and tell them that putting a Man to death is wrong, while they weep over their dead sons or daughters. As I said before my thoughts are with the victims totally, the forgotten victims.

Re: Stan 'Tookie' Williams
Well said Alan. The death penalty issue aside, the people who most deserve support after a crime of violence, and long-term support at that, are the victims and their families. When someone is killed the lives of their loved ones, who outlive them, are also destroyed. Whether you believe that justice should be based on redemption or vengeance, the focus and sympathy must be on the victims.
Tookie Williams wasn't born an animal, he was trained to be one by his upbringing and environment, but in no way does that alter the facts of the acts he was directly and indirectly responsible for.
I can think of several inmates currently on Death Row far more deserving of empathy than he was. There are some extremely dubious convictions slapped on some poor unfortunates still on Death Row, who happened to be tried in the wrong states. I never forgot watching Fourteen Days In May and even though I'm neutral on the death-penalty issue, Clive Stafford Smith is an admirable lawyer...not words I've ever put next to one another before.
