I wouldnt put it just down to Britishness...If you consider the US have been complaining for a few years now about this trend to be dumb and celebrating all things dorky (the "slacker" generation and captured so well by Brad Pitt in True Romance and Beavis & Butthead to name but a few) then I would say this was something perpetuated and endorsed by the Western World...No doubt to make the losers of the world feel better about their lack of achievements, sorry existences and self worth.

Its no wonder why the foreigners are coming in at all levels from brain surgeons to porn models and cleaning up....

Beavis & Butthead is really quite cleaver in respect it can be watched on two levels ... a bit like watching Alf Garnett. Some watch it and identify with the dumbness and others as an ironic view of the dumb people in society. I suppose B&B were so funny because they do accurately sum up the mind of a teenage moron in the US ... only sad thing is the morons amongst the viewers see it as an endorsement of their lifestyle and miss the fact it's really a huge piss take. Other US stuff like Jackass The Movie, for instance, are moronic programs, made by morons for morons ... I suppose the moron test is whether you watch things like that and say "that lookd cool" ... or "mmm, I can't actually believe some idiot would even do that!".

You know he was a redneck when his last words were ""Hold my beer, and watch this!!" :)

...But Nachovx, what you said about Beavis and Butthead being watched on two levels can still apply to Jack Ass as well. I don't think Johnny Knoxville is dumb. I think he just makes a career out of doing dumb things...Again, as someone said. kow towing to the lowest common denomination

Making superficiality illegal is mighty undemocratic of you Olyphant... (you know who I mean). it would have been illegal in communist Russia....Are you a commie Olly?

Superficiality stays, it distracts the populace from the real issues at hand. This case is adjourned

If that type of ban was in place when I was a lad there would have been no TIZWAS and therefore no Sally James to perv over so sorry I have to disagree.

Harmless fun and kids laughing harms no-one and never has.

Hi, kids telly has always been purile. The way I would go is the way the Swedish Government went and banned Advertising for any Television programmes aimed at 12 years olds or younger. No adverts for 8 yr olds to get the latest mobile, and no Westlife or other bands of that ilk, telling the 8 yr olds to spend their pocket money (read: parents disposable income) on their latest balledy-bollocks. Although that does mean no Girls Aloud either, but we must make sacrifices, lol.
