Regardless of how much money the Government make.

Just think how much money is spent each year by the NHS treating smoking related illness.
How much money is spent each year on anti-smoking campaigns.

The Government are busy taking all that cash from Smokers only to turn round and use it to treat their illnesses and tell them not to do it on TV and in in papers.

Is it just me or is that amazingly hypocritcal?

The loony thing about smoking is that no-one likes it when they first try it. They actually have to work at getting addicted. I know I did (but gave it up in the end).

Some drink is like that (beer and whisky for instance) but quite a lot isn't so some of them have an excuse.

each and every argument against smoking can be used against alcohol too other than the odour. its just a chemical addiction. however, alcohol kills more people indirectly and is responsible for far more personal and public issues than cigarettes could ever possibly be. can't say i've ever seen two guys fighting in the street 'cos they've both been smoking or a guy goes home to his missus and beats the piss out of her cos he's had too many cigs. drink drivers? how about smoke drivers? how many people are slain each year by these idiots irresponsible enough to have a few ciggies and then drive home? alcohol is the drug problem with our society but, for whatever reason, is more socially acceptable than cigarettes. almost certainly because, of all the drugs available, nicotine is the only one that gives you nothing. there's no head rush, no mellowing, no tripping, no hallucinations, no violence...

however, my punchline is that i gave up smoking 3 weeks ago - filthy habit if you ask me!!

Smoking has been discussed on here a number of times, but normally has been defended to the hilt by those who feel those who have to breathe in their filthy fumes are fascists for objecting.

Drinking is a problem, and is more of a nuisance than smoking. Tanked up people lose some inhibitions, cause offence, start fights, vomit and piss in public, and are the main cause of the casualty departments being so busy at weekends.

Everything in moderation.

Moderation in todays society,in your dreams

Can't imagine a night on the town consisting of drinking only 3 standard drinks. So the brian cells will continue to disappear.Maybe we will see the caveman appear pretty soon

The sooner people stop equating getting shitfaced with having a good time the better for everybody

Then consider most know of the effects ie hangover, vomitting so I pose the question why keep doing it,lack of brain cells perhaps?

Who are the real wankers,Binge Drinkers or Smokers?

cheers

I agree a place where they can go and smoke with no outside contact. Make ciggarettes free for them too........but strike them being able to receive medical treatment for self inflicted illnesses. :o)
