Imprison

Prison is always spoken of in every case these days, no matter what. The papers and it's readers are always baying for everyone to be sent down.
Take notice - in modern society there is no longer such thing as an "accident"... if a tragedy happens then someone is always made to pay.
The woman who killed her own daughter and her best friend in a Lincolnshire accident a couple of years was "made to pay" by being sent down, similar to the guy that dozed off in his Land Rover and caused that train crash near Selby... the papers quoted the relatives of the victims recently saying he shouldn't be eligable for parole.
As if these people are going to get over what they did (and the ARE accidents, whatever the reasons) with or without the long arm of the law and the long pockets of the legal profession!

I presume those that tut and point their fingers never ever drive when tired, get distracted or have any accidents whatsoever.

Modern society seems to have erased the word "forgiveness" from the dictionary....mind you, "forgiveness" doesn't do in court, and we all know what people are ru(i)nning the country.

Too true, we're living in the 'somebody must be to blame' society. Fuelled by the compensation culture there is so no such thing as an accident anymore.

That said, if it had been one of my family who'd been killed in the Selby train crash by a car driver who'd been up all night and was texting/talking on his phone when he crashed on to the tracks I might think differently.

I know that stretch of the M62 very well... there's a slight bend prior to the road going over the train tracks.. with no carsh barrier.
And all these years later... still no crash barrier....

I always thought prevention was better than cure myself.

always thought that incest was punishable by a custodial sentence in this country,
I live in Maryport & know the people involved, believe me if you also knew them you would have very little sympathy for them.

attn magoo,
afraid you jumped in with both feet. no where have I advocated a prison sentence, read my post dated 18th aug., but I simply asked "what is community rehabilitation"?, perhaps too forcibley for your sensitivity.
You do not know me or my background so to describe me as being "all heart" is not on. I do a lot of voluntary work in the community with kids involved in drugs & can see that working but if an adult woman does not accept that having sex with her own son is wrong than I can not see how community rehabilitation will work.
I understand that you have a legal background so I won't try to argue my case on legal grounds but surely you must agree that incest is wrong, moraly & ethicaly , offends against common standards of decency & is abhorent to most people.
I personaly don't think that the sentence has done her any great favour, had she been given a token custodial sentence followed by the rehabilitation programme then many of the locals would have been pacified & she could have moved on but local feeling, which I do not condone, is running very high at the moment & I fear that she is going to suffer long term abuse.
