I think you'll find that Robbie was pushing himself as Bond. No one outside the Fleet Street pop columns took him seriously.
Orlando Bloom is another limited actor and, like Clive Owen, wouldn't be able to carry a film. And you can dismiss the idea of Ewan McGregor.
Jude Law? Ralph Fiennes? Christian Bale?
Maybe they should go for Colin Firth.

Christian Bale is the new Batman and Jude Law is Sky Captain, so they're probably tied to those character-wise. I understand the makers want a younger, fresher Bond too, so Fiennes and Firth are probably out as well.
Wasn't Dougray Scott bandied about a while back as a possible candidate? He'd be splendid, with a slightly sinister edge too.

Who remembers Ians foray into Hollywood (complete with mullet) with his VERY dodgy agent? It was 1987-ish and Botham was touted as a future Bond.
Hugh Jakeman would be a good choice.............especially if he kept his Wolverine talons from X-Men

It was just one of those "I'm a pop star so I can get what I want" things. Like Michael Jackson getting all stroppy with Spielberg when he wasn't cast as Peter Pan. Didn't he get some voodoo witch doctor to take revenge on Spielberg, or is that more tabloidy rubbish?
As for Dougray, even though he's from this part of the world I'm not convinced by his acting.
Can't believe no one has suggested Julian Clary yet!
