Funny how this rarely gets mentioned as Trevor Howard wiped the screen with him for acting.
Funny how the 3 Mr Christians' were all blown off screen by Capt. Bligh's.
Charles Laughton blew (fnarr fnarr) Clarke Gable away
Same with Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson, and same with Howard and Brando, already mentioned

The problem is that Bligh, whether played as a monstrous disciplinarian (as Laughton and Howard did) or seasoned seaman (Hopkins), is a more rounded character than the childish, petulant Christian. Bligh has been given a rough ride by history. Whatever version of the story you believe, you must admire what he managed after being set adrift---navigating a small boat of those the mutineers wanted to die thousands of miles to safety.

Yep: as AJP Taylor said (approximately), Bligh was a diamond geezer, Christian a twat.

With Master And Commander having introduced a modern audience to a true approximation of life on board ship, perhaps it's time for the Bounty story to be done again. Most of the mutineers were of the boy officer type shown in MAC. All the Fletcher Christians have been too old.

I don't think there is enough rum, sodomy and the lash for your taste.
