Midnight Express....even if the book was completely different!

The trio of films Alan J Pakula made in the 70 are all great Klute, All the
Presidents men and the Parallax view, But of all the 70s films Dog day
is the one i can watch over and over again.

It's a great question Ace, because it's about films that have never had their critical or popular due. I've got three films that I love and still often watch :

1. The Duellists (1977) directed by Ridley Scott. With Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel. Absolutely panned when first released. Very simple tale of two Napoleonic soldiers who have a long and pointless feud.

2. The Ruling Class (1972) directed by Peter Medak, from Peter Barnes very funny and irreverent play. A great cast headed by a deliberately over-the-top effort by Peter O'Toole. Alastair Sim as a senile bishop and Arthur Lowe as a marxist butler are sublime. The use of music predates Dennis Potter's work on tv.

3. Wise Blood (1979) directed by John Huston, from Flannery O'Connor's book. The brilliant Brad Dourif plays an anti-preacher called Hazel Motes. It's very funny and very savage and a superb critique of American commercialism and religious stupidity.

I think these are all very underrated even now ; I hope others like them or may even be tempted to view. They all have the makings of classic films. Well, in my uneducated opinion at least !

One of my all time favourites is 'The Driver' (1978)
Ryan O'Neal is a getaway driver and Bruce Dern is the detective who is determined to catch him at all costs.
It's worth watching for the car chase sequences alone which are truly astonishing but the film as a whole is a very clever thriller.
It usually receives good reviews in the film and video guide books but I'm not sure if it did that well commercially.

3 films from my top 20.

havent seen convoy but recall the hit from 76 very well.

"marathon man" perhaps, nearly as good as the book.

Alan Arkin I like for some strange reason

How about some of those spaghetti films starring Terence Hill & Bud
Spencer...highly under rated when compared to flying high or the kentucky fried movie

Cheech & Chong never appear as re-runs...I wonder why?
