228,000?!?!? Most people in Britain barely get over 140/150K before the car just dies! The most ive ever seen is like 180/190K...still if your 1999 is at 81,000 already then ur doing 20,000 a year which is a massive amount - I hope you dont get sore
(my cars on 91,000 at 8 years old by the way)

Re: Shell Optimax Petrol....
Amazing how the newer vehicles seem to breakdown more frequently than their predecessors....technology
My parents still run a Toyota Corona & A Toyota Camry....never had a broken part on either.....25 & 20 years old if memory serves me correctly
As for the Australias own Holden brand fron the 40s to the 70s....indestructible compared to todays offerings and cheap to replace parts
A Mechanic mate of mine used to clock up 60,000km per year as a courier in a HK Holden Monaro.Did it for 10 years no problems apart from starting and stalling in the cold. Not bad for a car made in the late sixties.Made to last a lifetime. He hotted it up and sold it(1 mile to the gallon is expensive) - rolled and totalled within a month
cheers

Your post was really interesting Bimmercat thanks for taking the time. Without gettting into a big debate over US/UK fuel prices but can you give me an approx to how much it costs to buy petrol./gas over there? Around here it costs about 75.9p per Litre (i think thats right!) so basically on a fuel level alone at approx 10p per mile it would cost us like ?2000 a year to do the kind of mileage. Kind of a lot!
Maybe you could answer me something - why is it in america both on fictional tv (i know i know!!) and reality based tv the engines seem to be extremely loud and have such exhaust powered rumbles. I could only conclude that your engines must be bigger than ours or that you all have funny exhausts.
Having said that - I know films are inaccurate but all your generic cars in films seem to be beaten up and really loud.....Tis strange.
Btw - anyone have any thoughts on the new road tax fine system?
ps - anyone else see that documentary on texas last night? seeing them driving about in those big 50s looking cars brought a smile to my face

Re: Shell Optimax Petrol....
well $1.35 works out at 0.75pence so for the same amount of money you are getting a gallon and we are getting a litre!....damnit i forgot US gallons and UK gallons are different..shit
anyway to return to your post. your pick-up sounds great! nearly 300bhp loll, mines got 90bhp and it takes off pretty fucking quick lol Sounds like you got some serious machinery there man, congratulations
theres an increasing amount of hondas and toyotas on the road around here and i can tell they are great cars - reliable, fast as hell, but i just find the look of them soo bland and uninteresting.sad really. i think illl stick with the vw golf, popular as hell but for a reason - it suits everyone from families to single young people to elderly people.....please excuse my lapse in typing again for this reply in a hurry

Re: Shell Optimax Petrol....
FUCK! I just wrote a whole big answer to you Bimmercat, clicked POST and somehow (prob by acidently cursor dragging) my browser flipped back and when I tried to return forward my post was gone! So now i have to rewrite the things i said to you...went something like this I think:
Your truck sounds awesome, do you have any photos of it that you could send me? I really like the whole pick-up idea as it ouses Americana and Marty had a kickass one in Back to the Future lol. Also they always had them in horror films in the 80s and im big into those as well
You said you get to 80-90mph easily but whats the top youve been ? Personally 93mph is the fastest ive driven (only been passed my test a year on jan 13th) but i dont enjoy it as I dont think cars are safe at that speed. Anything over 70mph is pretty dangerous when you think about the possibilities (dont forget Norfolk where I live is the only county in England without any motorways)
Recently one of my friends clutch broke on her car and she couldnt stop easily or something and a few months back my parents were driving his old volvo and the accelerator got stuck down and was accelerating away - if that happened at like 100mph you need a miracle....
