strictly speaking, not true. the song is about a dream jimi had where was floating underwater through a 'purple haze'. although you could say that the dream was drug induced, but then probably so are 95% of all rock & roll songs.
the drug 'Purple Haze' was named after the song, not vice versa.

"Snowblind," "Hand of Doom" and "Sweet Leaf" by Black Sabbath. I always thought that Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" was about being blissed out on heroin and although there are no specific references I can think of surely Bowie's "Low" album was heavily influenced by his rather out of it state of mind during the mid-seventies. Oh and just about everything ever recorded by Hawkwind!!
