Thats a myth about us Aussies

We used to be a fit nation but thats changed in the past 20 years to a fat nation...only behind US of A in the fat stakes

I've watched several of my friends become so obsessed with their bodies
that every other part of their lives suffered detrimentally

Has taught me that everything is best done in moderation

The only Exercise I do and have done since I was a wee lad is walking & cycling 50-100kms per week.

Its only been the last 5 years I've begun pushing a few weights every other day.Mainly as a precautionary measure to stave off arthritis which runs in my family.Squats,Bench Press,Bicep Curls,Tricep Curls,Situps and most importantly Stretching

Given that I'm tall & gangly(6ft21/2 86kg) it would be a lot of hard work to change my body shape and even more to keep it.As I'm not looking to follow in Arnies footsteps don't see the point in spending hours in the Gym making the perfect body

A slightly out of shape 37 year old

thats cool deuce, and its always good to read ur posts :)

im 6 foot 2 as well....but my weight is in stones...and it fluctuated between 11 and 13 stone in the last couple of years (although when i have more muscle i am lighter and i never look any different ...certainly not 2 stone!) ....i digress

as gay as this sounds ill say it anyway - but i never really saw ne male bodies that i "liked" enough to aspire to growing up until i saw a few certain calvin klein adverts and thought thats the level of fitness i want to get to....i involves strong chest mainly but with healthy thighs arms and stomach....without slipping into some kinda GYM BODY....its basically an attempt to get to "swimmers body" ....and to be honest i think women like that kinda body best.....

i never understand how u ppl stumble across this site....! for me it was literally just sitting online one night and the letters BGAFD came into my head as some kinda web site that i had heard (thumbs up for advertisers) and i just ended up here.....q.weird really

now off to do some of ur exercises listed in that shoulder exercises link....btw which part of aus are u in and are brits welcome lol

One thing is for sure....muscle is better than fat and too much muscle is just a pain in the ass...high maintenance

Calvin klein advert...It wasn't Kramer from Seinfeld by any chance?

Makes sense to want to be something that your body type can get to without having to sacrifice everything else.Nothing Sexual in checking out other guys physiques

I only found BGAFD when I found google...the other search engines were simply hopeless for anything related to Adult entertainment

Sleepy little Adelaide South Australia the home it would seem of a shed load of British Immigrants....only welcome if they learn to shower every day and stop whingeing about the flies & heat

lol i agree its good to be ahealthy level in between, and a lot easier work too.

aw we are pretty soft when it comes to that kinda thing im afraid...i reckon id love oz tho cos it sums up my life attitude q. well that kinda "eh whatever mate" attitude, not overly fussed by much + good bands have been popular there + u seem to have the best bits of britain and america combined but still unique :)

as for the calvin kleins it was a fellow oz actually travis fimmel...

that was the ad and it really made me realise that men COULD have good bodies if they didnt overdo or underdo the exercise. im a bit lucky tho cos my natural body is built to be similar to that (obv not as good or toned yet) but in terms of proportions and outines/shape etc....so at least im not chasing certain unattainable aspects desperately! (lets just stick with neck downwards lol). and i agree with u about looking at men doesnt have to be sexual, i dont really do it but i check the calvin klein adverts every now and then to see how im getting on.

thanks again for all ur links they are reallllly usefull to my plight to attain strong chest shoulders thighs and arms :)

We do what we can

This site might also be of use

10 part home work out

Funny how people always think we're laid back....given that 50% of the population survives on welfare or the weekly pay we're not as laid back as we once were

As some Aussies say we're just following in Americas footsteps
and the only difference is the size of our population.A relatively small 20 million

!!thread hijacking alert!!

re. the lucky country - i know there's a large sandy bit in the middle but why only 20 million? seems rather a small figure for what is, after all, a continent.

The cost of living Down Under especially buying your own home has made having kids a poverty trap for many

Many people trying to get ahead through study live at their parents home well into their twenties and only think of having kids when in their thirties unlike my parents generation that had me in their early twenties...they got by on 1 wage where as today it takes a minimum of 2 to get by but only with subsidies from the Government through family payments

It all adds up to too many hurdles to jump so many just don't bother having kids until they are financially secure which sometimes means never but usually means mid Thirties

My 50% is based on the fact that 50% of Australias population in the last consensus stated that they didn't have any savings what so ever

The other 50% would seem to be putting their excess cash into property & shares

Its a misnomer that all the problems are only where people are earning a pittance.

Plenty of the people on good money that have gotten burned through excessive lifestyles and over extending themselves through borrowings
You only need look at financial counselling in Australia...it sees peoples from all wage brackets

We are at present and have been for about 10 years in a spending & investment frenzy

Spending way more than we earn through things like equity loans, overdrafts secured by your house and of course credit cards with reward schemes

Sadly this has made things like owning your own home & living at the same time a forlorn dream for many
