The US of A is top 40 lightweight bubble gum baloney when it comes to music.Always been a finicky market for overseas acts to crack

Agree with you about Elvis Costello
Nearly every album is a mixed bag of various styles which few if any other artists can match

Think JaneyWeb might be using (i don't want to go to)Chelsea is Ace loses the bet....lol

Joe Jackson is certainly brilliant ...from Real Men to Stepping Out.....if I hear IS She Going....one more time.....AAAHHHH!!!!!!!!

Nice to know if you dig a little deeper than the HITS there is good music to be found

cheers

Why don't obscure/interesting music get a look in-corruption-pure & simple

I've seen first hand the bribes record companies offer retailers to fix the charts...of course the Radio Stations will only play whats on the charts
unless they are independent radio stations-sadly they are few & far between

Radio stations are more about adverts than music IMO
Most top 40 hits all seem to last a similar amount of time-surpise surprise

Madness to me are Numero Uno....happy go lucky lunacy
Henceforth the other brit bands you mentioned only got a cursory look in

I always thought The Cars were an interesting outfit
used some of the weirdest off-sounding notes I've ever heard
Somewhere between pop & punk until they went too commercial

Bowie has always been light years ahead of the pack

Red Hot Chilli Peppers certainly grow on you

Talking Heads-Were on the road to Nowhere-Georg Bushes Theme Song
Expect the unexpected when listening to them

As for the Grunge movement-most of it is depressing bilge one step above the heavy metal/thrash metal/death metal moronic bands IMHO

cheers

Grunge? That's Nirvana and Alice in Chains to me. Astonishing bands. Surely you meant awful Nu-metal, of the Linkin Park/Korn/Limp Penis variety (and I think you'll find they are a good few steps below heavy metal actually - Zep, Sabbath et al, vastly superior).

Good of you to give Bowie the nod. Both Heathen & Reality show all the other 'Legends' still peddling sad greatest hits tours how it can still be done (brilliantly) if you're actually willing to put the effort in.
