AIC are possibly my favourite band of all time, their unplugged session I thought was simply amazing and the album from that session is one I probably listened to more than any other.

Layne Staley was always destined to die early, one of the most unique and brilliant rock singers ever. It's actually hard for me to believe that it's nearly 1.5 years since he died. Doesn't seem that long ago. Layne Staley and Joe Strummer in the same year :-/

Yes, Alice in Chains were superb. And just as good was Neil Young.

I have a few favorites

Nirvana one was good

I loved the early Unplugged shows like:

Aerosmith
Mariah Carey
Hardrock Unplugged which included Great White/Slaughter/Winger (rarely shown on MTV) Saw it on MTV Headbangers Ball.
Pearl Jam
Poison

plus

R.E.M., 10000 Maniacs, Alice In Chains, Sting were all impresive as well.

Yeh Eric Claptons Unplugged version of Layla is one that always sticks with me as a great track.
I remember Dana Carvey as Garth on MTV Waynes World Special doing a spoof of that track Layla, singing "WaynesWoyld, Party all the time Waynesworld" in the Layla melody.

Heres a list of MTV Unplugged at IMDB:

huh i do have Break the Cycle by staind and its still incomparable to alice in chains and nirvana etc because those guys were the ones who shaped all modern rock.....staind are essentially the modern equiv of alice in chains but with the ever-popular heavier guitar sound, 7 string stylee. Aarons singing is nothing compared to the likes of laynes "endless rain",....or indeed my other joint fav band Soundgardens chris cornell. Aarons voice is easy to spot but hardly as powerful as the others.... Staind ruined themselves for me...dodgy riffs and FUCKING CONSTANT REPEATING OF "I feel ....these feelings. im feeling, u feel, we feel " fucking says feeling every single line of every single damn song :|
like all modern usa rock bands....good album 1, greaaat album 2, then album 3 onwards is a downward spiral of weak riffs and thus poor melody

I never knew that Chris Isaac did an Un-plugged, I'd like to see that.

For powerful singing frontmen check out Phil Anselmo from Pantera. Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Display Of Power. A hard-hiitng one-two combo to your sences.

David Draiman from Disturbed is good, but I don't know if they've got the longevity to last in the public eye for the next 5 or 10 years.
We got both kindsa music here. We got Country and Western

It's nice to see so many forumites are rock fans, this thread already named many of the bands in my CD collection. Pantera, Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, AIC, Pearl Jam.......

Maybe I'm getting old or something, but other than TOOL, White Stripes and Audioslave I can't think of any current rock bands I like. Can you imagine 'Linkin Park', 'Good Charlotte' or 'Slipknot' doing an unplugged set? pfff....
