I remember that one now!

There was a really good documentary on BBC 4 a few months ago about the making of The Third Man.

It was full of stories about the filming of the movie in Vienna in 1948. The one I had heard before was about how Orson Welles would only turn-up for filming when he wanted to.

That?s why there are scenes of Harry Lime?s shadow on the sewer walls as he is running to escape the Police.

This is because Orson didn?t want to film in the Sewers, and Carol Reed came up with this solution so filming could continue.

Best documentary I?ve seen in a long time.

The Michael Caine character was Harry Palmer, a spy from the books written by Len Deighton.

Michael Caine played Harry Palmer in several films. The Ipcress File, Funeral in Berlin, The Billion Dollar Brian, Bullet to Beijing and Midnight in St Peterbourg.
