Just to add to the confusion - having given up with SportXXX - I watched one of the 'Lover's Guide' films on channel 946 the other night, and it showed the lot! Masturbation, oral sex, dildos, penetrative sex - and for ?3.95. OK it was a 1999 film, but how come that hasn't left all British children irreparably damaged? What a nonsense Ofcom's stance is - it's OK to show someone about to be hanged - on open channels - but pin-protected, subscribed to, consensual sex - absolutley not!

This is true Terry - but the fact remains that with a Euro-dish you can legally recieve hardcore. Anything extreme would be proscribed by the DCMS.

Section 177 of the Broadcasting Act 1990 allows for the Secretary of State to make a proscription order for a foreign satellite service, the effect of which is to make it a criminal offence to supply any equipment for use in connection with the operation of the service; to supply programme material or arrange for its supply; to place advertisements in the service; to publish any programme details of the service; and to supply or offer to supply any decoding equipment enabling the programmes to be received.

So we are already protected from extreme broadcasts. The fact that the last channel to be proscribed was Xtasi in 2000, means that all the other Euro broadcasters must be broadcasting acceptable material otherwise they would be proscribed?

So why won't Ofcon allow it in the UK? If it were broadcast 22 miles from Dover it would be legally viewable but from Dover, it's not!!! How can Ofcon have applied TWF Directives, EHCR Case Law etc. correctly?

A PIN number is good enough for your Credit Card but not it would seem, to watch adult entertainment.

Something is seriously wrong here - and it's Ofcon.

Of course, a further problem for Ofcon would be that if thet allowed full R18 on Sport, TAC, etc they'd have to, under equal opps., allow the gay channels to broadcast gay porn at R18. Now that would really send the religious folks into fits of appoplexy. Imagine the headlines in the Daily Mail...... I've always viewed this Ofcon issue from the standpoint of hardcore hetro.sex but they have to take into account the gay issue as well. Maybe that's why they fudge this issue? Just a thought...

to further confuse things channel 5 showed a programme / series a month or so ago, which featured explicit material. it was a lovers guide style proggy. it was on at about 11, and obviously no pin protection etc.

why cant the adult channels use the "sex education" loophole to show more?
