When I searched for the perfect forum code, I couldn't find one. So I wrote my own. If admin wants to get in touch, I'll show you some samples.
My email is in my profile (hidden to most, but presumably visible to the site admin)

Yes, I've visited sites that have flat view forums and my experience is that trying to follow threads is a pain in the arse.

Yeah, you're bang on the money, Lukeolson.
The script for this site went out with the ark - honestly, I mean no disrespect, but it ain't aging well at all.
I use a lot of the U.S. and Euro forums and some of the features and options are really very useful - the BGAFD could well by taking note of other sites across the www.
Here's one I use often, it's great to use and easy to follow:
http://www.eurobabetalk.com/
It's the nearest Euro equivalent to the BGAFD and a damn good site to boot!
Just because there are a few luddites who fear change (of any sort!) doesn't mean that this fine board has to be left in the design Dark Ages!!
Peace.
PG.

I hope that BGAFD remains a very improper forum. !wink!
A few more bells and whistles would be nice though.

Who really cares how old the script is?
The simple facts are that the Threaded view allows a late comer to look at a
topic with say 200 replies on 1 page and be able to follow it easily
You can't say the same about the flatview in my experience
Just because the Majority are doing it doesn't mean its the best way

I agree with you luke.
However i have personally created/installed and updated over 30 forums (fora?) now and to switch a database such as this one over to something esle would be a right royal pain in the arse.
I am guessing the owners/admin at bgafd would love a forum that is more easy to use, more funtional etc but have neither time nor know how to switch it over at present ....no offence guys just seems like if you could you would.
Also a forum with more "bells and whistles" would add to server load which in turn could up costs for the nice chaps that pay for this place....option there would be to ask people to "donate" which never properly works.
Also luke you will find you are dealing with some very old sticks in the mud. They have got used to one thing hate change and will find any reason to not change. If change is imminent they usually throw a fir and claim they wont visit anymore......thats my experience of the over 40's anyway.

Tricky..
Not all over 40's are as bad as you seem to think...
There are quite a few of us over that age here on the BGAFD
Changes or no changes this current forum seems to have a warm and friendly feel to it, unlike the phpp etc. forums. If you've noticed, we can now preview our posts and even add smilies...
Your comments about server loads etc. is very true as well. Using the new forms of scripts might make it easier for hackers. A lot of them use the cgi to get in to sites where they're based....
The only complaint I do have, is that a few of us have noticed the site to be crashing a lot recently. It doesn't load at all or it does but the data base isn't available to open the forums etc.
Other than that, this well over 40 is happy and not cos I don't like changes.... LOL

Well put!
Especially so in the latter part of your post, but it's not so much an age thing as it is a 'Brit' thing - we are a backward looking lot, forever going on about the past, and 'the good old days'
Newsflash - there never were any 'good old days' - only people with rose-coloured spectacles!
But going back to what you said about the over 40's - having just entered my forties, and I've got to take exception here(!!) - I mean don't you know that 40 is the new 30? I'm seeing a 25 year old and she reckons I'm more immature than she is...
But to re-iterate my point, it's not about about age - I know people in their 20's and 30's who don't like to move on, some are perfectly happy to keep things 'cosy'.
As I've already stated in my previous message, there are a few Luddites who frequent this board and fear change, they could adapt to a new style BGAFD if they wanted to.
They'll give all the opposing views they can muster, but the fact is they simply can't be bothered to re-learn a little - even when it could be of benefit to them!!
Peace.
PG.!happy!

Forget about convincing the 'stick in mud luddite forumites' like myself about the perceived benefits of upgrading
We don't have a say one way or the other
Its the 3 wise Moderators you need to be convincing
Good luck as me thinks you gonna need it
