Actually the vote had nothing to do with democracy ... it was more a vote against Blair by Conservatives/Libs/Some Labour. The outcome was the right one, but not necessarily for the right reasons.

ReadySteady ... url link is

randyandy ... it's a joint Scottish Executive and Home Office consultation. I respect your view about wanting "all this crap" restricted to the market that wants it, rather than in mainstream porn. But is it reasonable for those who *do* want it, to be criminalised?

Surely they are the REAL pornography, consulting adults having sex in whatever way feels good to them has NEVER been pornography in my view. This is the usual attempt by a restrictive regime to group them all together to get an all embracing law pushed through useing the extreme elements to cover the rest. Don't let it happen!!!!

'Cruelty to animals. Includes organised dog fighting, bear baiting, badger baiting, cock fighting. Also `crush' material which features humans stamping on vertebrates or standing on them with increased pressure until they are crushed.'

and

'Violence (non-simulated). Scenes of actual violence or mutilation shown in an exploitative context where they are not part of a legitimate documentary. For example a compilation of newsreel footage concentrating solely on scenes of violence or mutilation. This would also cover scenes of actual sexual assault including rape.'

I think this is the extended British meaning of the word pornography ... the bit that has nothing to do with sex and encompasses everything that is 'nasty'. There are people who like the type of stuff described ... and I assume some of them get sexual gratification, but it would be impossible to describe the content as sexual in any way. That's why the tabloids like to say things are disgusting, then go into the lurid details ... the story is only an excuse. The same way CH4 like to commission programs about porn and women who have sex with animals ... they can't say "here's a program about a woman shagging a goat", but they can say "here's a poor woman who killed herself because she was forced into bestiality (how disgusting)" ... but in reality it's the goat shagging they know will sell the program.
