You are far better using a merchant account with a high street bank.
Last time is said this some doppy dip said the high street banks will not touch adult but as I said then the doppy dip was wrong. As long as you are registered for tax and with companies house any of the high street banks must offer you a merchant account otherwise they would be breaking their fair buisness practise agreement and you would have a case,?????????.
Remember adult is a totally legal industry as long as the R18 path is followed

R18 dvd shop HAS IT GONE
Re: R18 dvd shop HAS IT GONE
No doubt that this was one of Jay's competitors doing this as this has happened before.
Remember if somebody is prepared to do this with Nochex then they will almost certainly be prepared to go the Trading Standards and the Old Bill who are duty bound to investigate if a complaint is made.
Therefore I'd watch your back Jay.
All this makes me glad that I got out of this business a few years a go.
I wish you well Jay as you run a good business.

You wouldn't have a case, as private business is perfectly within it's remit to refuse custom if it wants, as long as it isn't discriminatory on race or another law they are free to choose. The Co-Op bank recently told a client to find another bank as they thought the religious groups views were too extreme.
Re: R18 dvd shop HAS IT GONE
As I said the doppy dip before was wrong and most HIGH STREET banks will offer transactions as long as the company is registered correctly. You may not know this but religous groups are run as charities and are seperate in all areas to buisness hence the views of the org being questioned.
Now call that bank

"most HIGH STREET banks will offer transactions as long as the company is registered correctly."
Though sadly, I fear this will not apply to companies who business is illegal - like, for instance, British based adult movie companies supplying British consumers, via web mail order, with R18 movies, within the UK. The only legitimate means of supplying British consumers with this type of merchandise being face to face, over the counter, in a licensed sex shop. Yes, where sex and illegality are concerned, British High Street banks tend to be just as stuffy and conservative (with a small c) as one might expect them to be.

For those of you whom are a little SLOW and STUPID I shall explain. As long as the buisness is set up correctly most of the high street banks will give you a merchant account. Once you have a merchant account you can attain a CCT and when you have a CCT you can take payments. Even a SOLE TRADER can have a merchant account with CCT.
Now please call your bank and they will explain

Some might deem the use of overly aggressive language to communicate potentially useful information to be 'stupid'. It certainly isn't constructive.
Please impart any future pearls in a polite manner. People will be more appreciative of what you have to say and the forums will be a better place for it.

"As long as the buisness is set up correctly most of the high street banks will give you a merchant account."
Aren?t we going round in circles here? A business, for the purposes of the law, cannot be 'set up correctly' if it is trading illegally (as in supplying UK customers with R18 movies via mail order) now can it? If you march into a High St bank and outlined your proposed R18 web/mail order business plan they will either politely tell you to fuck off or call the Old Bill, or both. BRITISH HIGH ST BANKS WILL NOT PROVIDE MERCHANT ACCOUNTS FOR ILLEGAL BUSINESSES PERIOD... Jeez! If they did every crack dealer, people trafficker, retailer of stolen goods and contraband, would apply for one, wouldn't they?
Hey, look Digi-Guy, I'm going to give you credit for not being AN IDIOT, and put it to you that you are talking about something slightly different, here. That we may, in fact, have our wires crossed? I'm now guessing that what you are talking about is obtaining a UK merchant account by deception - by suggesting to the bank that you need a merchant account for an entirely legal and innocuous business, then when that has been approved, simply route your moody transactions though that channel? If that is what you are getting at, then, yes, that is an option. Moody geezers have been doing this kind of thing for some time. However, it is not foolproof or as safe and stable as getting a legitimate account for a legitimate business. The very same thing that happened to Jay before - where someone bubbled him to Nochex, could happen in this instance and if the bank became aware of the true nature of his business they would snatch the account back in a jiffy, keep any funds he had in credit and possibly tip off various unpleasant (to moody geezers trying to earn a living) government agencies

Well at last we got there?
Assumptions are being made that perhaps he opperates his buisness outside the UK law regarding adult material but I spoke on forum with him a few months back and he assured me this was not the case so I have to assume that its all opearted legit. So as a legit opperator you could have a merchant account from ANY high street bank and then get a CCT. Dont forget there is nothing stopping you PAYING for adult material on line its just the way you recieve it that terms it legal or ilegal. Give that last line some thought but well done Jay you are doing well which appears to be pissing some people off in the good old british tradition
