I've just fired off an e-mail to Ofcom about this. We must keep plugging away.

Following up on Riley, the Tories didn't give us anything - remember they went big time on blocking adult satellite channels. The idea that a future Tory government would be more liberal in these issues than Labour is a complete fantasy.

Although it was the courts who allowed R18 in the first place, never forget that the Government could have legislated to stop it again and, personally, I believe a Tory government would have.

All of us have to get on to Ofcom about this. Don't let it lie.

That's exactly right, I have never been able to watch softcore, apart from when I was about 16 and it was all that was available ... I never then and still don't see the point of it. In the times of the past when I couldn't watch hardcore, I watched nothing, because it's just so damn annoying with all those knees, flower vases and strange close up shots of the back of the thigh that have you contorting your head to even try and figure out what part of the body it is you're looking at. Any money paid for a softcore version of a hardcore movie, is about the same as throwing it in the street . in fact throwing money in the street woul be the preferred option.

"The idea that a future Tory government would be more liberal in these issues than Labour is a complete fantasy."

Complete fantasy? Maybe not. After three election defeats in a row it's now dawning on the Tories that society as moved on and they have been left behind in an austere 1950's style world of 'back to basics' ball bag. There now moves underway to make changes in Tory party philosophy, maybe radical changes, much like the Labour party had to do to make themselves attractive to an ever more aspirational electorate. Modernises and forward thinkers are suggesting that the party should jettison social conservatism and instead adopt social liberalism. After all, this thinking would be more in line with a party who's overriding beliefs are in having a small state - a government that tells us what we can and can't do only when absolutely necessary. Contrast this with the Labour party, who seem to have little compunction in harnessing the power of the state to make us all fall in line with their politically correct, middleclass, beliefs. This might be the only way back for the Tories, as their aging, blue rinse, membership is growing smaller by the day. There is no future in the conservatism of the past. Even arch ?back to basics? man, Michael Howard, recognises this - hence his moves to resign (hopefully, in favour of a younger man, more in tune with 21st century Britain) and to take power away from the parties blue rinse powerbase and stop them choosing party leaders in their own image.

If the Tories strengthened their business and entrepreneur friendly credentials, caressed our aspirational desires, then adopted a strategy of opposing government attacks on our freedom, but at the same time leaning harder on chavs, scumbags, and wasters, it would present British voters an actual choice at the next election.

DD, Batbabe, Pyramid, Suburban Tales, Ladies behaving badly, Suburban twosomes to name a few they where the first version of hard R18 that where passed with pentration and screened on TVX with those scenes visible albeit fleeting and mid shot they where the start until labour reverted back to R18 version before full hardcore.

The tories with James Ferman BBFC boss at the time liberalising adult entertaiment and it stopped dead with Labour for years and looks like more years

I never thought for a minute that they would allow it. We live in a very strange society where the most graphic images of violence and disgusting dead bodies as seen on CSI are acceptable but sex, which we all indulge in, is not. On Saturday, we were treated to the most repulsive images on CSI New York of the results of a body crushed and spread out like jam between two cargo containers, on what planet is that a more acceptable image than consensual sex?

As a side note, it amuses me that as CSI is shot for US network tv, no nude images are allowed. All the autopsies are shown with a discreet covering over the breasts or genitals but we can see the repulsive wounds. I know which I think is more damaging to children!

Dickie (and everybody else!)

If I was you I'd have a look at Paul Tavener's site

Paul has always had the latest news and going's on with OFCOM.

Of course this issue cannot be left as it is, this is the 21st century and I for one am prepared to fight it!

Ofwatch suggests:

"1) Cancel your subscriptions to any Ofcom regulated UK adult services unless you are tied into an extended contract in which case cancel as soon as you can.
2)......."

Why punish the channels? They suffer from this as much as anyone else.
No skin of Ofcom's nose if they go out of business.

Your right Fraser it's a mad mentality of a world!!!

As to which political party would or would not allow more freedom. All a bit pointless really as we are at least 4 years away from making another choice of government. By then we may be awash with VOD and IPTV choices.

I would hope that present subscribers fail to support soft core channels in the future and cancel at the earliest legal opportunity...Deny the adult broadcasters healthy profits and maybe they can be forced into challenging Ofcom in the courts..

Don't just cancel but at the same time register a strong protest against their inaction to stand up to consumer rights regarding R18.

As a foot note I have e-mailed a complaint to the PB trio of channels that I will when my minimum subscription period expires be cancelling on the grounds that adult providers are not fighting for the consumer.

The response to my e-mail. Well there has not been one. Not unexpected. It's seems they are fighting shy of accepting cancellation info or criticism via e-mail.

The next time they hear from me will be in writing recorded delivery.

Might be a good time to ask about our IPTV network and set-top box, RGB might just stick the picture up as a teaser. why bother fighting them when beating them is easier,
