Here is an example of a Yahoo club that has been spammed to death:

I wonder if there are any real members left. Most probably this is a spammers-only group now. All of them talking, no one listening.

Plenty of active groups that I used to frequent got spammed to death

The only solution seemed to be all messages being filtered through the moderator of the group which is a major hassle for all concerned

I get the impression that this spamming is more like advertising
Even when a group appears dead there are still potential fools passing through that obviously click on the links-otherwise nobody would spam

cheers

I totally agree that the ideal way of preventing spamming is to moderate the groups messages. Unfortunately, the down side to this is when Yahoo! delete your profile and the group becomes truly dead with no messages ever getting through whatsoever.

id say cocknobsters yahoo group for cum on christine at 28007 members is pretty popular...ok it gets spammed and before u say she is no porn star she has her own DVD titles available from rude britannia which are one of the best sellers.

shaz also has 2309 members faye 3706 myself 5980. i dont moderate shaz or fayes sites but there are certainly no bouncing members on my group (cos i delete them) but yes i let my group be spammed cos of the type of group it is.
isnt that what yahoo is all about - ADVERTISING!!!!! thats why we dont pay hosting fees etc.

Regarding spamming of Yahoo groups, I belong to one discussing the London strip scene. We have two very good moderators. All new members have their posts moderated until they show they are genuine. In the last three years I can only think of 1 or 2 occassions when the board has received spam (someone advertising bukkake parties was one and the other was from a hooker... neither have anything to do with the London Striptease scene) and they were deleted quite quickly. From talking to one of the mods recently I do know that several dozen have been deleted before they ever got posted and the spammer was removed.

I have in the past been a member of other Yahoo groups with thousands of members though only a handful of spammers active! I e-mailed one moderator to ask why he didn't filter out the junk... the e-mail bounced back as user unknown!

How many members are signed up is no real indication of how popular a group is... one with 10,000+ members but only spam may as well have no members at all. The strip group I belong to has some 1800+ members of whom some 300+ are active (from post several times a day to post every now and then) and the number of posts in 2003 have varied from about 490 in February to nearly 2000 in June. December saw some 750+ posts. I think it would be fair to say it is a popular group.

How many of the members in some of the groups mentioned in the above posts are "active"? If the only posts are from spammers, and the photos in the galleries don't change or get added to what is the point of the existence of the group other than to boost an ego?

Some groups, such as Cathy Barry's, are very active, but that's only because the person(s) running the group has(have) a business brain. I'm not so sure about some of the other groups mentioned.
