I wish to add one thing that i found out on a website months ago and that is you a legally allowed to have a backup copy of anything you have, that could be music, movies or software.
1) To put it another way you are not really allowed to record the top 40 off the radio to tape as it means you have a copy before it hit the shops.
2) you are not really allowed to record public broadcasts from your tv i.e BBC or Sky as you are breaking the copyright law but we all do that.
3) there are websites you can find where for a monthly subscripton you can download movies or music this how i see it going what there called is PPV.
4) The was a case in America where this kid designed a program to Rip DVD'S the company took him to court and this kid was only 14 and wanted him jailed but the judge threw it out of court saying he didn't design a program to make dvd's only to copy them. Also the Judge said the law states you are allowed 1 backup copy of anything you own as long as you have no more than one copy of that nothing can be done about it.this also includes computer games as long as you have no intention of making more copies and selling them on.
But these american companies are getting greedy because they don't like this fact and are taking ppl to court.
If the website is still around take a look at it.
http://www.afterdawn.com i won't post it as a link then i won't be in trouble but if you can find it then use your search engine i think it might be under copyright.
Broadband
Re: Broadband
As a webmaster I think I'd be lost without Broadband today as I have to do frequent large updates to my sites.
The one downside of broadband is that too many sites are now designed with this in mind as there are still more surfers in the world on 56k and I looked at one of my sites, which on DSL loads in seconds, on a 56k and I fell asleep waiting.. And this is a plain site with just gifs and jpgs on the tour no "Flash" or other animations.. So if you find your 56k is slow to load sites.. Broadband is the way plus even though it costs around ?20+ a month you can be on line 24/7 at no extra cost.

Re: Broadband
Hi
Couple of things
First, once you have used it you will hate to go back to 56K. I have a 1MB link with Blueyonder at ?40/month
Secondly, if the site you're accessing is running like a bucket of sludge you will still get problems.
Thirdly, it is worth getting a firewall. I use Norton Firewall and that appears to do the job. Pretty cheap and available from your local PC store. Yes I know, a contradiction in terms
Cheers

Re: Broadband
Yuk....Yuk David to Norton i have used this program many years ago and cost me a new pc as it reconfigured my o/s and bois setting as well as the binary coding i have this pc networked via a wireless adapter and used Windows XP Pro's own firewall ran lots of test to see if it works and it does.
As for anti virus i use AVG is free does cost a penny and does the job i would never use Norton programs ever again cost me to much money to fix what it caused so i had to scrap old pc and buy a new one.
