Interesting point Sandie but personally I never watched porn to catch some golden moments of personality and great acting. But that's just my personal taste...

However, I don't agree with all this griping about under paid performers. Girls get more here than Budapest and the Czech republic, (but it goes without saying the performance from eastern European girls is on the whole pathetic regardless of looks. I don't care how beautiful the girl is, if she fucks like someone has a shotgun at her head, who's interested?) and the going rate seems pretty consistent in the USA and Europe (A list stars not included). So I really don't think it's the lack of cash putting the girls off. I still believe it's the perception we have of sex in this country.

I lived in the USA for a long while and I noticed a huge difference in sexual attitudes as opposed to the UK. In this country sex is consistently portrayed (mostly by the media) as a big joke. Something smutty, crude and titilating. It's pathetic and it's mostly due to the peurile attitudes of a lot of repressed middle class tosspots who control the media in this country. Including the Sun, Ibiza Uncovered and the general back street education we tend to get for schooling.

In the USA however they have a very sincere and honest attitude to sex. I think a lot of porn stars over there believe they are respected (if they are or not isn't even the subject of debate) whereas over here most girls realise they are going to be labelled as a big joke - being dirty, or seedy, or nasty by a lot of repressed and childish attitudes to sex.

If we grew up as a nation, then maybe our sexual attitudes and the calibre of our performers would change. I don't think the level of payment even comes into it.

But what the fuck do I know.

Bobbi, There are some very interesting points raised in your post - about society etc... I think it is fair to say that we are perhaps a little, if not a lot, "retarded" about sex in this country... I'm afraid that porn is the poorest of relations in the media industries...

I'm afraid that be it because of feminists or moralists, many people choose to turn their heads an look the other way rather than stand up and defend porn - and I think that is where things are changing...

But will that mean we'll get barbie-doll porn stars?

There is something raw and sexual about porn that rises above superficial looks... I have to say that I am wholly in agreement with Sandie (not just because she's a porn star and I am trying to get in her knickers either!) and then some! I do think personality comes across on camera... But a good porn performance has bugger all to do with acting - or I should say, it shouldn't have anything to do with acting... I am aroused by people losing themselves in the heat of the moment - watching the movements, watching the expression, the eyes roll, the facial tension, the agony and the ecstasy.... that's good porn... I'm not into posing barbie dolls smiling sweetly for the cmera and preening themselves...

But I'll also say this much Bobbi - I do actaully find the notion that Brit girls are unkempt and ugly a bit misguided and stacked with untruths... you've had a reply from a girl who is blessed with the sweetest of smiles, a tidy, tight body and a great down to earth personality and sense of humour... It's a rather poor generalisation you have made and one which I have difficulty finding any support for...

And whilst we're on the subject of girls who perhaps don't look after their bodies - Can you show me anyone in US porn with a six pack and monster quads to match those of Danniele Kelson??? The trouble with your 'body-obsession' (for want of a better term) is that, at least in my experience (but I think others will back me up) is that trimmed, honed Hollywood bodies are inherently (and often in actuality) artificial, representing as they do only a tiny minority of those girls we would see in the High Street. And the attraction very soon palls......
Now, there's nothing wrong with the occasional aspirational fantasy about a 'dreamgirl' like Silvia Saint, but more often my fantasy would revolve around someone a little more attainable, and perhaps a lot less intimidating, i.e. 'the average girl in the street'....and this is I feel where Britgirls are strongest- there's little more erotic than a pretty, though not stunning, girl giving it her very best shot, compared with a gorgeous, bored, seen-it-all-before, going-through-the motions US Porno Superstar.
