Another Radio 4 programme

Post by rgb »

I chanced upon the Analysis programme on BBC Radio 4 last night. It was encouragingly well-balanced and concentrated on research into porn. Online here:

Frickin hell! A liberal feminist with a balanced view! That is refreshing. These kind of shows where they study and show results are the better ones

I was filmed by a liberal feminist intellectual (her words) and she was surprisingly nice and fair at Venus. She said the producers at UKAP were the nicest she dealt with compared to the GGG stand ....Nice!? Me? Aw shucks! I'm ok I'll do for now

Just listened to this prog on i-player.

I was concerned when violence was mentioned in the first sentence but, after that, the programme was a well balanced and interesting exploration of the subject with some interesting vox pops.

One of my problems with the way anti campaigners work is their continual linking of violence with sex when it comes to porn. There was some interesting information about the availablity and usage of the two together, though one anti campaigner dismissed the evidence as "cod science" without anything to back up her rebuttal other than hearsay evidence from women who had been abused.

Perhaps, in the UK at least the industry needs to find a way of separating the two and promulgating the fact that the vast percentage of its output involves nothing to do with hurting either sex - either for real or in simulation. That way the anti brigade will have to find another headline argument.

Also the show made it clear from the outset that it wasnt to be bundled in with child porn or other illegal forms of porn. I thought that was a promising start.

What I would like to know is, what do they mean by violent porn? The head being flushed down the toilet stuff is quite silly theatrics but the oppsite to that is bollock kicking porn Does this come under the violent porn definition?

When I hear about simulated rape Im confused because most billers to most sites in the world would not allow it...Maybe in eastern europe maybe but my point is the internet is regulated by its billers anyway who only deal with porn because it brings a lot of money in but it wouldnt be so quick to align itself to the controversy of pseudo violent/ rape porn

Where hard core feminists like Gail Dines are concerned a woman fellating on an erect penis is virtually rape in their eyes. They'll look at a smiling woman with a mouth full of cum and say "Look at her! she hates every second of it. Shes been conditioned by rapist men and came from an abusive background"... and blah, blah blah

For every Gale Dines there are 1000 men women who listen to her, never having seen any porn other than perhaps covers of magazines in newsagents, who will agree with her because they either have a hang up about sex or thinkany depiction of sex is a perversion.

Thanks, rgb. An excellent, balanced programme and if it wasn't for your link I wouldn't have heard it.

"When I hear about simulated rape Im confused because most billers to most sites in the world would not allow it..." OEJ

US company Kink's SexandSubmission site has a fair amount of simulated rape in it and you can subscribe to that with all types of card. Perhaps they're able to do it because when they started doing business with the card companies their material wasn't as strong, and as it's grown stronger they've always shot interviews with the girls before and after, presenting them as consensual, three-dimensional human beings and the scenes they're appearing in as obvious fiction. I don't know. It's a head-scratcher.
