Storyville: The **********

Post by one eyed jack »

Watched this documentary on iPlayer last week

Are peoples morals so clouded that they dont know what wrong is from right anymore? People seem to be championing the cause of ********** as if its some modern day Robin Hood/ freedom fighter but what it does is facilitate in the financial demise of corporate entertainment companies we know as the film and music industry

The excuse i seem to get from friends in conversations is that those companies are greedy, therefore deserve it. How dare they charge ?40 for a game or ?15 for a blu ray

My thoughts are, if you dont like the price then dont buy it but getting it for free doesnt make your argument right.

Especially nowadays when you can get a blinboxx or lovefilm account and watch a lot fo movies for cheap for a monthly subscription

Would anyone care to comment?

Netflix & the pirates have killed Blockbusters because people no longer need to buy DVD's anymore, HMV is suffering the same fate & experts reckon within 5yrs DVD's will be fazed out.

Its up to governments around the world to tackle the problem of pirating before film & music industries come to an halt with their big scale productions, as we progress with technology we shoot ourselves in the foot even more because pirates are not totally to blame.

The internet as destroyed most media industries by cheapening products & allowing companies to unfairly undercut shops, EBAY & AMAZON teamed with the recession have caused irreparable damage to the high street hence the demise of our favourite shops.

We have seen the changes in the adult industry over the years & have evolved with them but the present situation is making us now think is there enough of the adult industry left to save...views on this.

There will always be an adult industry. The business model will change as it always has been evolving but people wanting sex has always been a constant

In that respect it is here to stay. its the habits that are changing. No one wants to pay money for it if they know they can get it for free. Its not even about the quality or the exclusivity. The playing field has been levelled by the fact it can all be got for free.

People may tire from internet porn because there is nothing unique in that there is so much of it. Its not about good or bad anymore. its all part of the same ocean.

The future is in interactivity or getting to shag the real thing. There is still a lot of money left in this business its all about where the consumer wants to spend it. Why buy the porn if you can shag the real thing for a bit more money?

Kim, someobody at the porn auditions for my documentary revealed that he paid $2000 for an hour with his favourite porn star and he worked for a post office.

Just to make a point that if people really want something that bad they will save up if they have to and pay for it. It might have been one hour but the memories of that wil be a life time.

You can bet he'll be saving up to try some more out. Thats probably why he wanted in on the porn business because he can get to shag his favourite brit girls and get paid for it....Well, except he didnt pass the auditions but he got to shag Suzie Best! :-)

The movie studios are doing fine as witnessed by the healthy cinema attendances and CD sales have always formed a small part of pop stars earning - touring accounts for a lot more. The adult industry is suffering and deserves little sympathy for the way they fleeced their customers in the pre-internet days.

Interesting comment John

I'llhave you know for all the ripping off done there are a lot more who value custom by running an honest to goodness service too because we want to distance ourselves from the riff raff that have tarnished the adult industry.

Secondly I dont seek sympathy

Thirdly, although a film does well on the cinema circuit (lets take Dog Soldiers which did phenomenally well taking over ?2 million). The production that made it saw no return but did get a chance to make another bigger and better feature but saw no return on their first production because the house always wins first. Cinema exhibition can take 70 to 80 %. When the production accounts are done i doubt the producers were left much to pay their rent with.

The adult industry is like that as well as Ive witnessed when i got into distribution

You are right however about the touring aspect but CD sales are down, downloads have superceded physical media
