OFCOM regulations - say goodbye to yout business!

And there was me thinking this was a government of deregulation, one that wanted to remove the shackles of bureaucracy, and the ties of red tape that hold industry back, from the shoulders of the brave entrepreneurs of the nation. Ah, no, I've just seen that when it comes to deregulation they only want to dismantle burdensome safety and health legislation that prevents death and injury in the workplace, rather than give a boost to a sector that as far as I'm aware hasn't killed anyone recently.

As I consider religion to be unsuitable for children until they are old enough to make up their own minds, what chance of a credit card wall on god-botherer sites?

To echo jimslip, I thought the proposals would only affect UK websites that are monitored by ATVOD as being video on demand websites.

They've been trying different avenues to regulate the industry for years and it now looks like they've found something that they can make stick.
It's come from an EU directive and been passed thru law with all party backing.

This will affect everyone running sites from the UK showing videos.
It's not just for adult sites, it's also mainstream sites such as BBC, ITV, Virgin etc.

When they contact you you'll have a choice - pay the ?2900 per site/per year taxation or take your videos down.
If you pay the ?2900 per site you will then be subject to their strict censorship laws on the tour areas of your sites whereby you won't be able to show trailers for anything over 18 cert.
They can change the rules whenever they want to subject you to more censorship so once you've paid they've got you by the bollocks.

I don't know why there is so much surprise. From the very start it was illegal to upload from this country to a porn site, even if the server was abroad. I recall the judge saying, "Ahem, in my great wisdom, the mere act of uploading from the UK is deemed as published in the UK, and that's that!"

This is yet another quango, with some fat cat wanker no doubt getting ?250000 PA, to raise some money from the serfs of porn (Us). But it's nothing new, they've been on our backs for decades.

We will prevail, like we have alsways done!

yeah I agree with Jim and Simon on this one, the have struck and nerve and got people shitting themselves, but its way too early. They can not regulate the whole internet be in porn or none porn, they just can't, the internet is too big of a place.

If you was confronted by impossible odds, all you have to do is pop the scariest bruiser on the nose and watch everyone else jump back.

Thats what we got here and ATVOD need not task many people to the job of doing so.

Just the mention of it has got people running to the hills already.
