Hi

I use a Zoom h4 for audio, it stores the sound files on a sd card.

I use Panasonic hdc sd1 High Def camcorder, it has a mic input but no headphone input,so there is no way of knowing if the sound is any good.

The zoom h4 is great, you can pick one up for about ?175

I use the Sony DCR-SR50, with my collegue using the more up to date version of the same cam. We don't use external mics as the inbuilt one does the job well, for indoor, fairly close up work.

Sound quality is outstanding, barring the occasional 'creak' from the camcorder casing. The later version doesn't have this.

I use the Sony HVR-A1E which comes with internal mic and with external XLR and external Mic. Sound is good with the external mic I find,

Anyone actually use one of the mic's that can share distance information with the camera and zoom in accordingly ?

I can imagine the microphone zooming in its casing leaving a 'zzzzZZzzZZzzz' noise like my flash does on the sound track ?

Mr Mark, to remove unwanted sound for clean crisp sound you need to check out www.adobe.com for sound booth. Had a tutorial on this last week that removed a phone ringing in the background without altering the quality of the dialogue.

Amazing stuff. It will do the same in removing the camera creak too.

Certainly does. Many times Sound Booth has saved me when I forgot that a fan was running during a shoot and also totally removed camera creak on a video I had to edit for someone,
