apologies to those of you living outside the big smoke but 'the soho original bookshop' on brewer street, in soho (amazingly), is currently selling all of mr c.'s range (fuck truck, etc) for ?9.95 each or ?25 for 3!
also, private format mags are now ?6 pounds in most shops, or 2 for a tenner. just to give folks outside london a point of comparison, in areas lacking competition among retailers.

there was also r18 certificated stuff on an adjacent shelf, going for a fiver but it was pre liberalisation - i.e. genital shots but no penetration.

Yes, McCavity's gear is cheap (Closing down sale? Can?t give it away?) because you get what you pay for. And frankly , as "Guess Who" pointed out most folks do not want to see boilers in unappealing sex scenes - and though it pains me to say it, I would have to include Violet as well.
Now take Private, Vivid and Wicked. They use gorgeous girls, charge top $ and sell loads! So what does that tell you. These days most people want to at least feel that they are buying a quality product. But if that product is in the "bargain bucket" they automatically assume that the retailer can't sell it, or it must be crap! Now, if they were my movies that were being discounted I'd take steps to see the retailer wasn't supplied. Totally anti competitive I know. But you don't want some nob head destroying the credibility of your product by giving it away, do you?

I agree about the industrial forumulaic predictability, but on the other hand you always know that you are going to get a technically accomplished video. And who can deny that their formula has been wildly successful?
Personally, I have a broad spread of mainstream tastes and alternatley like to view "quality stuff" as well as "girl next door stuff." The problem is that the "girl next door stuff" has degenerated so much over recent years as to become at best a turn off and at worst repellent. So don't accept it I say. Tell em' it's crap.
I would love to see some ordinary nice (plain?) girl next door stuff, but where is it? And hey, I certainly wouldn't want to live next door to the kind of girls you get in current British low budget stuff. 'Cause I get the feeling from them that it would not be a very agreeable neighbourhood at all!
