Pinnacle Studio 10

Post by J.J. »

Seen various posts on here reference Studio 10 and how utterly awful and crash-tastic it is... which is exactly how I found it, prompting me to downgrade to v9 (thanks Joe!) to get it working for more than 5 minutes without a crash.

If you've got a copy and haven't updated it yet, go get the latest patches from pinnacle - got to and scroll down, grab the 10.5 and 10.5.2 updates and install in that order.

Suddenly, it all works! And faster & more reliably than older versions too. Sure, it's not pro-level editing, but I don't care, it does everything I need to do and more besides. The only bugbear I have is that the output format options are too limited, so I can't use it to encode video how I want... so I just use an external encoder instead which, let's face it, is probably the best option anyway. I can now edit, watermark & title a video in less than its runtime - and the scene detection is so good that most of the time all I have to do is drop a transition in between each cut. Nice! I'll post some samples when I've got them compressed & uploaded (currently re-editing, titling and compressing the videos from champagnetease.com plus a load of new ones for the site re-launch).

Even better, I'm in some of them too :-D

Starting to enjoy it more now I'm getting the hang of it, and now it doesn't crash my PC every 2 minutes. Currently surrounded by 4 PCs all running flat-out encoding video for the site! takes FAR too long... at least I finally bothered to figure out how to make windows media encoder work in batch mode so I can at least process more than one at a damn time.
