Re: New people required for video work
Thank you Big Red. I will have a look at that site. We are having a production meeting next week. I'm sure after talking with the director and writer I will find out what sort of money they have available.
BTW what format do most people use for DVD and sat channel use? I normally shoot DigiBeta but will be out of budget for this. I assume you use PD150 pr 170s for Gonzo.

Re: New people required for video work
the quality of the sex is what counts, you can shoot it on 35mm if you want, but if you get bogged down in the technical details too much you will fall into the same trap so many professional broadcast types make, they watch a Ben Dover movie and think "thats easy that is, I can do that" so we get great lighting, great camera work, great editing, great special effects.....and totally crap sex....from equally unenthusiastic performers standing around between takes pulling their plonkers in awe at your organisational ineptitude, planning is everything, how many scenes in the movie? how many male and female actors required? who fucks who, who does or doesn't do Anal, what positions, with or without Condoms? Still's, who is going to shoot them? before the scene or after? soft or hard? or both? STD and HIV paperwork, Model ID's Model releases, locations, fall backs for No Shows's ...if your only concern is which camera to use then you have a veritable shitstorm of an education coming up.
pd 150's XL1's XM1's etc are all great for Gonzo, but for God's sake research your medium thoroughly, believe it or not there is such a thing as good gonzo and awful gonzo and the last thing needed in the UK right now is awful gonzo,(God how I hate that term, why can't we call it something like "unscripted sexual encounters between convivial adults in realistic surroundings") unless, that is you don't mind pissing money down the toilet
study the works of established UK producers in the Genre you are interested in, don't for a moment believe that your "Broadcast" experience somehow puts you above the unwashed masses, One Eyed Jacks, Marino's road trips, Jim Slip's UK Sluts, are all great places to start and their product shifts units, all are established masters of their chosen field, decide what you like about them and what you don't like and see if you can do better, and for God's sake shoot with style.
reading my text I can see that Im going to come over like a sanctimonius little prick, Im sorry if that's the case, only I am sick to death of having to view yet another UK production of some Chav's picked up from a Disco in Camberley necking some E's while licking the ass of some some stretch marked to fuck single mother whilst being filmed by the PG Tips Monkey's and edited by said Chav's whilst still on E's, you have a chance to do something different, if you find yourself looking through the viewfinder of your PD 150 seconds before a cum shot and the guy is saying "Im gonna cum are you ready?" and the girl is saying "just dont get it in my eyes" while the photographer shouts that he needs stills with the Cum on her face and your tape out warning light starts to flash at exactly that moment then welcome to the party!!

Re: New people required for video work
Well said Mark. Should be put into some kind of shooting bible.
Re: New people required for video work
LOLOL!
Well put mark..." and then there was light" ..the bible is now written!
Anyways...Prophet...if ya need a guy for the work Cheap! then let me know..Ill helpya out...But its as a favour mind!
Oh! Dont use digi beta, unlees you want to keep swapping film over, want to carry a very heavy camera in a cramped area, I use an XM1 and XL1 for the stuff i shoot for when im doing behind camera work, and its perfect for this. The xm1 is the best as its light and has a screen to remote view from , the XL1 has better lens metering but isnt wide enough, but is good for that reason as well! You can get a wide angle for xl1, but just another cost that can be avoided.
As said, good performers, good idea, good LIGHTING, and you just get a good product...not everyone does it...and yes...you will piss alot of tape and time up the wall. Being in the Broadcast arena, youll allready know that even with big budgets and pro crews to you still get waste...Adult work is no diff. Infact, the work may well help you tighten up ya day job work as to speak as well!
Good luck...and dont forget my offer.

Hi Prophet
Like Mark said look around & try to do different in some way, adapt a style of your own & keep to it. Second don't tell others your ideas until its been shot & distributed.
Keep costs down to a minimum on your first shoots because your only going to get a set amount back at first, advertise yourselves well so when a film is released people are comfortable with you as a company, try to get as much action in your films but the main thing is to keep it real as a lot of directors ask to much of the stars & it shows on film.
As for filming with camera's, try what ever your happy with or can afford at the time. Our pub film for instance was shot on 8mm with a complete amateur cast & we told by so called experts that we'd never sell but after 5yrs being sold through mags & 2yrs as a R18 its still selling well here the US,S.Africa & Australia so follow instinct sometimes.
Content is the first important thing as this is what customers want, glossy & amateur sell as good as each other even though its shot different.
The industry at present is wide open for new producers who are happy to network together as some of the older ones will try to freeze them out if they are given the chance, make as many friends as you can as this also helps.
Good luck with your new company.
Kim

Re: New people required for video work
Hi
I read your comments with interest perhaps there is bit of truth in what you say, but as with most film ventures there is an element of luck required for most projects,no matter how much pre-planning or unless you are a complete genius, as in mr p. ie: chance favours the prepared mind.
Perhaps it would have been more productive for you to suggest avenues that could be explored for the new film maker, and possible contacts a new film maker could approach, with his ideas.

camera-lighting-editing. using pd150, also full size broadcast dv cameras wide screen 16:9 or 4:3.
