Comments on classic euro films

Post by joandetarraco »

Some time ago, a guy asked at VEF for a list of the best five classic films, or five to start with or something.

A number of people contributed, all with American films; only beutelwolf provided a list of five classic euro gems.

I thought I could hardly agree more with him. I like classic vs. modern for a number of reasons many times pointed (or perhaps because I started to watch porn 30+ years ago); and I prefer euro to American as well.

In euro classics, everything is more familiar-looking, so it's easier to fantasize about these ladies and places as my neighbours. Also, in American classics, guys are usually "too much hung" (I mean that Alban is "more my size"), and there are too many just b/g scenes with too much bj footage.

In euro productions, I focus in the lapse 1977-1984. In these years, sort of an standard was agreed. Before that, there are great scenes, but some weird things as well. After that, cheapo productions and compulsory anal scenes began (I prefer anal scenes as a nice dressing, not the main contents of the dish).

Aus dem Tagebuch der Josefine Mutzenbacher was mentioned by beutelbolf. And I believe this is the masterpiece of the number one: Hans Billian, the man who also made Kasimir der Kuckuckskleber and Rosemaries Schleckerland (this one would be so much better without the guy having his ass molested). A complete edition of Billians works between 1976 and 1981, made by the technical staff of Alpha France, and with silly music removed would be just great!

This feature (a guy with his ass molested) also happens in two other great works: La Rabatteuse (France Lomay's defloration scene is superb) and La Clinique des phantasmes (Sophie Duflot is great here, as she was in Secrets d'adolescentes or when she gets pervert Cyril Val in Sweet Young Girls).

What I am not enthusiastic about is the Tegn series, great movies certainly, but I don't like the mixing of hard and soft core, a feature often found in other Scandinavian productions of the time. Fabodjantan is a nice exception, and Porr i scandalskolan has a very nice scene with Kim Frank taking off some uncanny lingerie.

Many names and titles come to mind. Thanks to those who made them!

The porn that we saw or got excited about in the 1970's and the 1980's, when viewed again today, may not have the same impact or same relevance in light of what wehave seen/consumed since. Mainstream and porn movies are always rated, appreciated and re-appraised by the passage of time (photography, story line, acting, settings, sex content, etc).

Porn movies that still stand up rather well in my view are:
(1) LE SEXE QUI PARLE (PUSSY TALK) (1975,France) because of its funny content/premise of a talking vagina, the attractiveness of its female lead Penelope Lamour (I wish she would have continued with her porn career), the presence of the delectable Beatrice Harnois.
(2) FELICIA (1975,France) due to its storyline, the nice looking male/female cast, the presence of the blonde Rebecca Brooke and Beatrice Harnois
(3) SENSATIONAL JANINE (Josephine Mutzenbacher 1) (1976,Austria). Funny, erotic and anti-clerical at the same time. And of course, because of the delicious, busty and "innocent" Patricia Rhomberg. This was one of the first euro porn movies imported and releasded in the US by Caballero on video in the early 1980's and it was both a commercial and critical success. Probably my favorite all-time euro vintage porn movie.
