Herzog Video has just announced the forthcoming release of "Katarina und ihre wilden Hengste" on DVD.

There will be not one, but two DVDs, part 1 is called "Katarina und ihre wilden Hengste - Die Hure von St. Petersburg" and part 2 "Katharina und ihre wilden Hengste - Die Sadozarin kennt keine Gnade". Both films are HC (I think).

I didn?t know there were two parts? Did anyone else?

Also, Herzog has, this far, released mainly Gunter Otto productions or films distributed by him in Germany in the 70s and 80s. Am I correct to assume that this is from a different company?

Which would mean that we might be able to look forward to some more German classics in the future, released by Herzog?

Herzog release both 70's & 80's classics together with recently made films. They are quite difficult to obtain in UK and, possibly because my German is very limited, not easy to find on the internet. None of the main international distributors e.g. Orgazmik. stock them. I assume the films you refer to are the ones where Sandra Nova plays Catherine the Great? I think it was a two part film. If it is, it is chiefly remembered where the boundries of mainstream porn were really pushed in a scene with Miss Nova and a horse!

there's a guy who has posted stills of both hc versions (there's a sc version as well),they both have diff. edits so get them both...
a bit like a Jess Franco movie,so much versions,so li'l time...

I have this on VHS. I obtained it from Mark Johnston of Shocking Videos.
Mark scribed that there were two versions of this; and that both were hardcore; but that one version had more scenes of looting, burning and pillaging, and the other version had more scenes with sex (including the censored scene where one male finally procures the key for one madam's chastity belt, unlocks it and is about to proceed to enjoy himself, when he is greeted by a piece of male genitalia).
I agree with the sentiment of other respondents. It is a sensational movie.
