Very briefly, these are the main contenders:

Mac Ahlberg, using the pseudonym Bert Torn, directed a series of classy-looking films in the 70's: "The Second Coming of Eva", "Flossie", "Justine and Juliette" aka "Swedish Minx", "Bel Ami" and "Molly".

Torgny Wickman directed several famous and entertaining educational films, such as "The Language of Love" (Robert de Niro takes Cybil Shepherd to see one in "Taxi Driver"), but also plot-driven films like "Countrylife".

Paul Gerber, an American, did two interesting films, "Ceremony" and "My Teenage Daughter". Especially the latter is a bit of a legend, and rightly so.

Another American, Joe Sarno, made a bunch of films in Sweden during the 60's and 70's, well worth seeking out.

A Romanian, Andrei Feher, lived in Sweden for a while and made films. He eventually shot more and more in France, but retained his Swedish production company. Feher mostly worked with French performers, sometimes giving them Swedish pseudonyms (i.e. Dominique St Claire became "Barbi Andersson").

Bo A Vibenius made the most notorious one, "Thriller - A Cruel Picture" aka "They Call Her One-Eye", and also directed the little-seen "Breaking Point". Weird movies, representative of the sick 70's.

As for performers, Marie Fors? aka Maria Lynn, stands out. She only did full-on hardcore in magazines (at least one), but reportedly had real sex during some of her scenes (as can be seen in Sarno's "Butterflies").

Marie Ekorre, Christina Lindberg, Marie Liljedahl, Inger Sundh, Leena Skoog and Solveig Andersson were the famous names, but none of them did hardcore. Anita Ericsson did, and so did Jack and Kim Frank, an energetic live show couple of the times. "Leena" (not Skoog) was big during the late 70's, as was Oili Virta. Both these models were of Finnish descent.

The classical "Schweden-Film" era started big-time around 1965 and lasted until ca 1980. Even during its heyday, performers were hard to find and many of the Swedish classics are international co-productions with international casts (Harry Reems pops up in a couple, as does Eric Edwards, Kim Pope, Gilda Arancio, Brigitte Maier and a bunch of Danes such as Anne Magle, Bie Warburg and Lisbeth Olsen.)

There is a good internet resource: www.klubbsuper8video.com They have reissued many of these films (they also have some none-sex cult titles) and are having a grand clearance sale at the moment (VHS only, they will move into DVD soon). The site is only in Swedish, but send them a message, they speak good English. The films themselves are not subtitled, but some of them are actually made in English.

Sadly(?), my knowledge regarding current Swedish adult cinema is rather limited. Anyone up for the challenge?

Let me try to add a little...
Of course there was much more there & mainly Denmark on super 8/8mm loops!! Tiny Tove(Jensen,of German descent)is one of the famous ones,as the only one known by name.

Companies such as Rodox,Color Climax,Viva,Wara,Tabu(last ones are German) were very prolific in putting full color catalogues & adds in zines together.These back-catalogues were often sold in various European countries such as Holland,Germany to semi-legal outfits such as Master Film..(same happened w foto-shoots like Lasse Braun's magazine's My Porno Girls & Brandy...to Silwa & other publishers).

These were of course also sold to the US of A & the UK(before the BBFC came into existence/full power and for-ever,like 20+ years,banned Hardcore movie from their continent)!

Flashforward to the 90s-present day:
there's Sabina(actually Finnish),who did a lot for Kristina Bellanova & Seventeen in her early days, later some for Buttman & such, now only softcore & lesbian movies for ELS(.com?), a group of 4 or more females doing rude things with toys,footfetish,latex & wax...

there are 90s girls like Jenny Svensson,Christina Berg,Jessica Lindstr?m & Linda Thoren who were in Svenska Fantasier(on Bestseller),Buddy Double Crimes & Passion,...

that's about it.

Denmark had a good costume series called I Tegn.../in the sign of the Scorpio,Taurus,Lion,...w Anne Magle,german Gina Janssen,...
out on dvd in France & soon from Denmark,dunno about eng subtitled versions.

As to recent stuff Mike Beck's films are worth mentioning, e.g. the Ridskolan series and Vikingalegenden, the last a remake of Sarno's F?bodj?ntan. Many of Beck's films have been released on DVD by Tabu. Search for MIke Beck as director on orgazmik.

I don't want to be the nit-picky type, honourable colleague Zushiomaru, but Denmark and Sweden are two different countries. Confusing them might bring out the same reaction from the locals as the one Hercule Poirot gets when he's being called French (he's Belgian!).

But seriously, of course the two countries collaborated from time to time, which is evident in many of the mentioned cases ("My Teenage daughter", for example, was shot in Denmark).

The Danish Sign films will be out late February. I doubt if there are any subtitles. But who knows? (And who cares?)

Hi guys, theres a mention of a movie Ceremony.
Is this the one with the very opening scene a hot bonk on a table , as the over head light is hit and swings back & forth as they do it ?
Also a great scene in a cinema, where a guy follows a girl into the cinema sits down next to her and begins to put his hand up her skirt.
At first she wont open her legs but then gives in and lets him finger her.
I loved that scene and would like to get hold of it on dvd.
Any thoughts ????
