New Problem?? Censored DVD?s!!

Although big labels may go for maximizing sales by censoring DVDs so that they can sell nearly everywhere, the cost of production of DVDs is relatively small, and there are some labels which seem to be aiming at a more niche market, not necessarily restricted to one national market. With the international nature of the internet you only need a website based in a place where they can be sold. Admittedly these labels tend to be those re-releasing classics; so there may still be some titles one cannot get in their original form.

Another possibility is obtaining the titles in another language. I'm thinking of the Shendene releases of classics from various countries. I know the VCA release of The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann was cut, but Shendene do sell a VHS tape of this, not as yet a DVD. I wonder if the VHS is uncut.

I'm thinking aloud here and these are very tentative thoughts.

Your views are very interesting Alec. My fear, and I am sure others share it, is that the need to get a global market will eventually lead to a situation where the origins of the films are indistinct and we will just be getting some very bland stuff. That is not the case at the moment but we are moving that way. Clearly there are subjects which will always be purely for a small niche market but those have not found their way into mainstream porn and were never likely to. However there are certain subjects, and watersports are a prime example, where they were appearing in mainstream porn. Whether this activity is to an individual's taste or not is not the point. What is the point is that activities which are generally accepted in Europe are now being removed from dvd's to cater for countries where they are not acceptable.

it does seem an example for the well known censorship in the USA
to satisfy changes in laws & regulations ( since the Reagan area ).
already the existing US video version is very probably cut in the same way.

i only remember at the notorious example "Candy Stripers" or nearly all porn movies with underage Tracy Lords.

It is strange indeed, to me at any rate, that it is the Europeans who have to dance to the American tune, when the unacceptable and unpleasant face of porn seems to regularly occur in the work of certain American directors.

Indeed, but there is an uncut version (the early-1980's French release on [Scherzo?]) available on VHS and DVD-R (taken from the VHS) from some purveyors, even in the USA.
I obtained my copy from Shocking Videos [ http://revengeismydestiny.com/ ] of West Virginia. (!)
It is my belief that an uncut and uncensored version was never released domestically in the USA. Only this French video release. [The pissing & fisting scenes have French-language audio.]
My inability to notify people on the Adult DVD Talk forum about this is the reason why I do not post, respond, or lurk there anymore.

The pissing scenes are cut from the films so to appease the US market and the cut scenes end up on a website fully downloadable

Kind of unsatisfactory IMO

Economies of scale always win out in business-usually to the detriment of someone it must be said

Most of the comment regarding this topic has been about the abscence or removal of watersports and fisting scenes. I have notice a tendancy in German films recently to tone down films about incest, a favourite subject of some German directors. Usually now the films are about relationships between 'step' members of families, not sexual relationships between 'blood' relatives. Is this because of the reasons this thread was created or, perhaps, something else?
