Was Kirdy Stevens influenced into making Taboo in 1980 by the subject matter already being handled in European films?
After the success of the film did it influence European producers to make similar movies?
Any feedback welcome, thanks!
European Influence on Taboo (with Kay Parker)
Re: European Influence on Taboo (with Kay Parker)
I would assume that the influence came from Europe rather than the other way around. Incest has always been a popular subject with German directors. I don't really think it is so much an obssession with the subject, rather that it does allow an almost unlimited number of sexual situations to be developed. The Familie Immerscharf series directed (allegedly) by Hans Billian is a good example. Billian constantly introduced new characters to the series which is in effect two six hour films made into eight 90 min videos. Certainly a substantial number of high quality films were made on this basis by German directors in the late 70's early 80's. Although Immerscharf is a 1990's production. These are very difficult to obtain in the UK because it is a very taboo subject here. The Germans tend to treat the subject in a light hearted way I believe the Kay Parker Taboo films are rather more serious. I have no interest in the subject as such, but I do like the German films because they have so many characters in them of differing ages. Porn actors could act in those days! Kay Parker is, I believe, British, although her whole output was made in the USA.
