I see Mrs May is already milking the outrage in Manchester for all it's worth.

I cannot remember there being a plan to put soldiers on the streets after the tube bombings in 2005 or after any of the IRA outrages.

That's because you don't research
Heathrow Airport
?The only other recent major deployment of troops to the streets in response to a
terror threat came in 2003. Tony Blair sent tanks and 450 personnel to
Heathrow airport (pictured above) and other London locations after warnings
of a plot to bring down an airliner with a surface-to-air missile.
?The then-Prime Minister was strongly criticised for risking undue panic.

When the terror threat is critical (the highest) the army are used as back
up to the police. Thy are always under the command of the police.
Also half of security at 2012 games was army.

So Blair deployed 450 to an airport right in the middle of his second four year term as PM.

May deploys twice that number to the streets and tells us she has up to 3,800 on standby.

This two weeks before the General Election that she has called.

Is that a fair summary?

The Police Federation are saying the reason she has had to do this is because Police numbers have been cut so seriously that she needs the army to backfill for officers that need to be released to do Policing duties.

Mrs May was Home Secretary responsible for Policing for the last five years.

So I guess the reason we have soliders on the streets is either because of her incompetence in her previous job or it's cynical electioneering.

As I recall half the security at the 2012 Olympics was Army because G4S cocked-up their contract big time and a contingency plan had to be deployed double quick. The Army were then left to pick up the pieces.

And here's a link from the Torygraph to support my memory.

This happened on May's watch as Home Secretary as well.

I was just trying to point out that the army have been posted on streets
before when the terror threat is high. But you are just trying to score
political points and not giving a fuck about Manchester.
Well done big man.

But you haven't been able to point out that the Army have been posted on the streets before (NI excluded and not since WW2 anyway).

I don't consider soldiers in tanks on the runway of a large International Airport to be "on the street".

If anyone is trying to make political capital out of the outrage in Manchester it's Mrs May.

I don't see how me giving a "fuck" about anything is going to make things better one way or the other.

if she had a shred of dignity - we know she hasn't - she'd delay the election by a month but by then people might remember the policies she was touting
