Actually, I'll revise my no funny women list. Forgot about Catherine Tate but would disagree with you about her being a fine straight actress.

I don't like the "so funny it makes you cringe" style of observational comedy, like The Office - I don't laugh, I just cringe. But - in contrast to some people here - I do like surreal comedy when it is done well - but it's tricky to pull that off, and it typically ends up hit and miss, like Monty Python and Harry Hill; I draw the line at Reeves&Mortimer though...

funny
Fast Show
Father Ted
Omid Djahili
Blackadder
Hallo Hallo
Yes Minister
Terry-Thomas
Frankie Boyle
David Mitchell
Bob Monkhouse
Dave Allen
John Fortune
Big Bang Theory

unfunny
Russell Brand
Peter Kay
Ricky Gervais
Jo Brand
David Baddiel
Lee Evans
Micky Flanagan
Keith Lemon
Joe Pasquale
Jason Manford
Frazer
Reeves&Mortimer

hit&miss
Monty Python
Harry Hill [i know lots of people here don't like him, but I do]
Friends
Jimmy Carr
Michael McIntyre
Carry on films - widely loved in the UK, but there are some rose-tinted nostalgic spectacles heavily contributing to that love

Funny how the same names - Brand, Brand, Reeves and Mortimer, David Baddiel, Lee Evans - crop up more than once in the unfunny column.

Sarah Millican should also crop up more than once as a depressingly unfunny professional frumpy bitch..."eeeh, I'm a right fat mwntah me, pass the Hob-Nobs pet!" - at least Jo Brand had a spark of wit about her pie-munching desperate-for-a-shag fat loser persona. Millican is just in the right place at the right time, riding the BBC gravy train as a surrogate comedienne purely because they have a dearth of decent female comedy talent nowadays, she will take any booking for any panel show going too, desperate to milk her sham fame while it lasts it seems.

I suppose this thread is about successful comedians but given the main thrust of this board I think a mention should be made of our very own Ben Dover in the latter category.

Donn't like Ricky Gervais in stand up,any of his films or any of his recent shows. But The Office is a masterpiece and the greatest comedy series ever imo.

I may be in the minority, but I dont like comedians that uses foul language to make me laugh.
So I have quite a limited choice...... Hancock's Half Hour, Steptoe and son, Love thy neighbour, only fools and Horses, The big Bang therory, Everyone loves Raymond (think Patrica might have something to do with that).
