More confusion.

Post by David Johnson »

"Why would speaking Arabic make it more likely to support ISIS in the UK?"

The report does not cover this. It is purely about Arabic media. There is no data whatsoever on the proportion of non Arabic social media in favour of Islam.

Even if it did, given there is no indication of how many people are involved in the production of social media posts, you still could not come to the conclusion that you do which is pure guesswork based on nothing other than this is what you guess.

Confusion heaped on confusion

"why are Arabic-speaking Brits, Europeans and Americans more likely to be supportive of ISIS than non-Arabic speaking people from the same countries?"

Given the report does not refer to either how many people are involved and does not cover non-Arabic posts whatsoever, you are clearly totally confused.

Seems David is trying to avoid answering questions he knows the answers to, but which makes him question his own views so he'd rather continually go back over a point I've already conceded. This is weaselly and completely consistent with his character.

If David is trying to suggest there is no difference between non-Arabic speaking Brits and Arabic-speaking Brits when it comes to support for an Islamic caliphate in the middle east then he really is grasping at straws. It's utterly laughable.

"1. It has nothing to do with the link you provided which you didn't understand yourself.

2. I have no particular knowledge of which Muslim countries actually speak Arabic except presumably Saudi Arabia. All Muslims can speak some of the Arabic relevant to the Koran but that presumably is very different from colloquial Arabic.

3. I have no idea how many British Muslims speak Arabic.

4. I have no idea what percentage of those who speak Arabic might be in favour of Isis.

But hey if you want to read into this that "Seems David is trying to avoid answering questions he knows the answers to" and "If David is trying to suggest there is no difference between non-Arabic speaking Brits and Arabic-speaking Brits when it comes to support for an Islamic caliphate in the middle east then he really is grasping at straws." be my guest.

Anyway you appear to have all the answers.

As everyone can see, it is David that is confused. He's now started talking about Muslims, who, as he says, may or may not speak Arabic. Given I was raised alongside Muslims who mostly spoke Urdu and Punjabi I knew this, which is why I have been very careful so far in mentioning religion at all. This is the first post on this thread mentioning religion - and that's just to point out David's doing so.

I've clearly asked, (I think this is my fifth attempt) why Arabic-speaking people seem more likely to support ISIS than none speaking people in the UK, Europe and US.

I'm guessing David just assumed the leading question from me was a setup to attack religion and has now just started his defense of it without any provocation at all. !laugh!

I reference Muslims purely whilst stating I do not know how many Arabic speakers there are because I realise there is not a one to one relationship nor do I know what proportion are in favour of Isis.

Got it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You seem convinced that your view on Arab speakers is correct. You are welcome. That is it.

As everyone can see, his excuse for bringing Muslims into this doesn't wash. I never mentioned Muslims or any religion.

Maybe another pertinent question ought to be asked. Why did the study just concentrate on Arabic speaking media and social media? Why not, say, English, French or German speakers?

"As everyone can see"

I suspect no-one is actually looking Sam.

As for me I can feel myself drifting into a deep sleep with this thread.
