Seriously does anyone buy them anymore? I know of only one newsagent in my city that has a fully stocked top shelf (and yes the shop owner is Asian)...
If you look at how much money some models make then I am sure they see it as a lucrative profession. My colleague did dance at college until she crocked her knee. Her friend makes ?50k lap dancing.....hardly being exploited.

Re: Do girlie mags degrade and humiliate women?
unfortunately any strident minority group with a "cause" and that shouts loud enough will end up shaping the narrative (even if it's bollocks) and punching well above its weight, and regrettably the militant feminist lobby (aided and abetted by the likes of a few powerful friends like Harman) has been quite successful in selling this "expolitation" nonsense - even though it is quite clearly bollocks.
they claim to be all in favour of women having "choices". But clearly only if it's "choices" that are on their own approved list. So hard luck to all those other women who quite freely and willingly choose to embark on a glamour modelling career (and in some cases make a very good living out of it). Because this is "exploitation".
Total cods of course but you will never convince a committed 'Millie Tant'.

And if you want to talk about "degrading women" I think that some women's mags and trashy publications like Heat etc. do that far more than so-called "girlie" mags for blokes. That all seems to be perfectly acceptable though. as does degrading and ridiculing blokes (this has been a common theme for years now in advertising).

Male nudity is fine. Now imagine if the Full Monty had been about women? Utter filth and it would have caused a national outcry.....watch Dancing Bear for the ultimate show of female hypocrasy....

People using that "degrading to women" angle have no idea how the adult business is run and thats partly due to the adult business itself.
The mainstream industry has all kinds of information to show that people did stunts, animals were treated humanely etc...There is no kitemark of quality in porn to say models were consenting to acts with those they worked with or treated well on a shoot
The argument on one side is : "We need more transparency"
The argument against is: trasparency ruin the illusion an fantasy of a good wank because people buy into the dark sordid angle of the fucked up junkie porn star who was emotionally traumatised by a family member and lacks education because the idea of a woman being self empowered and making more than an average professional girl in a straight job is just too intimidating and imcomprehensible to some.
Its called judging everyone else by your own yard stick. Something that people in the business accept as all part of the business when why signed up to do it and if they havent, they should examine their reasons for why they are doing it

Re: Do girlie mags degrade and humiliate women?
IMO only when the individual girl has in some way been coerced in to adult industry in general or to do something beyond the limits of what she would do by free choice.
Some will regret their decision sooner or later but still not degrading or humiliating providing they were happy about what they did at the time.
Just because someone individually considers something degrading and / or humiliating they can not automatically apply that to anybody else.

Sparky,
that regret later is usually down to critics making them feel ashamed for what they have done.
Check out my podcast for Sienna Days first shoot.
It wasnt advertised as her because she wasnt in the business yet for going straight to the US literally the next day.
The reason she did this was to get experience on her own terms so she can be in control of the footage. That was a smart move I rarely see with girls who regret it later.
Its not a blanket answer to the question but it offers one insight to the question

Re: Do girlie mags degrade and humiliate women?
That depends on who you ask.
What you might find degrading, I might not. What humiliates you may not humiliate me.
Some upper-middle class lawyer might find it humiliating and degrading to make a living cleaning toilets. But some people clean toilets for a living without feeling that way.
So, it comes down to the girl who's doing it. If she's not coerced or pressured into doing it in any way, and she enjoys the work, it's all cool.

Careful Milk Tray Man. "They" might be watching.
I mean take for example the probe they have just managed to land on a comet. A scientist decided to wear a shirt design by his female friend which was covered in images of girls in bikini/s+m wear for the press conference.
He was later forced to apologise for wearing that shirt whilst in tears.
He was criticised for alienating potential future female scientists from joining the field. Which basically implies that a shirt is responsible for that.
