The Poppies At The Tower Of London

Post by planeterotica »

I took a walk around the tower yesterday and shot some film of the poppies; it's an incredible sight and quite sobering to think that each one represents a British or Colonial serviceman who gave their lives in WW1, each one is different and is still an ongoing project, they will be on display until armistice day and well worth a visit if you are in town.

Thanks for that. A very visual, powerful way of illustrating the enormous loss of life incurred in WW1. Staggering when you compare with the 450 or so British troops who have died in 12 years of war in Afghanistan.

An amazing sight. Also a clever visual way of representing the awful death
toll of that nightmare war. God bless all of them who fought and served in it.

They're hardly comparable...

I am not trying to compare them other than to highlight the vast changes in modern warfare which include the primary use of airpower, drones, helicopters etc etc. as opposed to almost complete reliance on huge armies to grind out a victory.
