Sorry Sam,
Simple mathematics. Too much of Scotland's business is intertwined with English, Welsh and Northern Irish companies. My own employer has a Scottish division which would need to find the majority of its funding from other sources than English money. Before we rescued it the organisation was struggling because it couldn't attract funding in Scotland.
The Pound. How exactly were you going to underwrite a new currency? And with what? You don't have sufficient Gold reserves and both your major banks are still surviving because we bailed you out. AFAIK Clydesdale is owned an Aussie parent company.
Defence. How could you defend your very long coastline, airspace and Oil platforms (are they owned by Scottish companies??) without a Navy, Airforce and Intelligence Agencies?
Of course you could use Holyrood's tax raising powers? But that would be a humdinger of a vote loser.....and what about a Scottish business that does most of its trade outside Scotland? As we all know multinationals are past masters in avoiding tax...

Arg......I'm English, in case you missed it and never lived in Scotland, nor have no close family in Scotland. Your whole post seems to give the impression you think I'm Scottish. I'm not. Well, at least that is out of the way.
And thanks for the reply, but it didn't really answer my questions. You've given your opinion on why you think an independent Scotland is a bad idea, which is fair enough, but outside that I perceive that your objection to Scottish independence isn't really about the welfare and wellbeing of our neighbours north of the border but more just a general annoyance of them daring to ask for it.

I have absolutely no problem apologising to you for any perceived insult. In return I would expect you to apologies for your 2 month non-stop campaign of insult and vilification that you subjected me to e.g. dishonest, slimy, disingenuous, using Middle Eastern deaths as entertainment rather than being genuinely saddened by them etc. etc. etc.
