Richard Attenborough has died...

Post by max_tranmere »

The legend that is Lord Richard Attenborough sadly passed away today aged 90. The star of countless films and a very respected director too. I doubt British cinema will ever see another like him. RIP.

I disagree. His career was very long and many of his films were classics, I don't think anyone, or few people anyway, made as many films as he did in their lives. He had tragedy too, his daughter and granddaughter were killed in the Asian tsumani. I saw on the news that he was married for 70 years, from aged 20. That is impressive.

I was in the West End one evening a few years ago and was heading into Piccadilly Circus station. There he was, heading towards the escalator with his wife, both dressed very smartly - had most likely just been to the theatre. An ordinary down-to-earth guy who even travelled home on the Tube with everyone else.

There is always someone who will come into a thread like this and make some comment about them being over rated. Does it make them feel more important?

Richard Attenborough is a legend in the true meaning of the word. It's bandied about a lot but in his case it's deserved. I don't need to defend him, his body of work speaks for itself. He will be missed.

A great man. He was brilliant in Brighton Rock, 10 Rillington Place and films like the Great Escape and Jurassic Park. He had a tremendous range as an actor.

I thought Gandhi was an excellent film and well deserved its Oscars. Not only that, Richard Attenborough did an enormous amount for charity and was one of life's enthusiasts having a long term love of Chelsea Football club.

A great man who will be missed. RIP.

Great actor, Brighton Rock, In Which They Serve, Seance on a Wet Afternoon, League of Gentlemen, and many more, for me far outshining his directorial work.

I'm certain he'll still be talked about and respected even 50 years from now. A truly great talent than many people were inspired by.

Legend or not, there was no such person as Lord Richard Attenborough. He was Lord Attenborough, Richard Attenborough or, at a push, Sir Richard Attenborough but not Lord Richard Attenborough.

Why is this simple naming convention so difficult for people to grasp?
